Hel, I remember that Buffalo game. It was awesome. Kosar had a great game that day, as did Slaughter, as did Metcalf.
I remember my dad, our family friend who was also from Cleveland, and I were watching the game. As the minutes wound down we found ourselves standing in the family room and inching closer and closer to the big screen TV. When Matthews made that pick, we erupted like a bunch of lunatics. My mom happened to walk in the room at that time and thought we were nuts!
Those were the good old days!

'89 Playoff victory vs. the Bills. Great video Heldawg. Those were the days man.
It was great to remember the celebrating of a big game win. Love all those guys.
And there was Art. He'd could have prevented our losing the team if he had only taken the opportunity to jump right then. There wasn't all that much to hold him back. Even at his age at the time he could easily have gotten over that railing and thrown himself to the turf.
One of my personal favorites was the Tim Couch To Quincy Morgan hail mary pass to win the game against Jacksonville in 2002. I think it was Quincy's only catch of his career..lol.

Man, watching these old clips makes me realize some things i had forgotten:
Those offenses in the mid-late 80s were stacked.
Kosar was aggressive. He was like an assassin out there.
We often recall Kosar having average arm strength. While not in the class of Elway or Marino, it was much stronger than I had remembered. He was slinging it all over the field making all the throws.
I rewatched the fumble. Made me very sad. The Browns were a team though as several guys tried to comfort Byner. What a sad time. Over twenty years later and I still got a little emotional.

I totally forgot that a Bills player dropped a sure TD before this play. But I remember going crazy after the next
I was at that game, I was 16 at the time and saved up my Xmas money and was able to buy me and my old man 2 tickets that had been returned from Buffalo and put back on sale day before game. This was before everyone had internet so I was down at Muni at 5am waiting in line to get tickets.
Do you remember the play before that drive that gave us the lead? Eric Metcalf returned a KO 90 something yards for a TD and the lead. Just absolute bedlam at Muni, damn I miss Muni

December 2, 1973; Browns vs Chiefs at Kansas City; I was watching the game with my Dad, who was in a hospital bed. He was suffering from ALS, could barely move his arms or legs, and was breathing via a respirator attached to a tracheostomy. The Browns were struggling that day, trailing throughout, and down 20-6 in the 4th quarter with time running out, when Greg Pruitt took a handoff on what I believe was 3rd and short. The opening in the line was like the parting of the Red Sea and Pruitt blew through it untouched, and sprinted 65 yards for a TD. He did his signature flipping of the ball over his shoulder in the endzone. He did not dance, just trotted off the field. I looked away from the TV at my Dad, and he was still looking at the TV with a big smile on his face. I'll never forget that ... maybe the last time I ever saw him smile. If I ever meet Greg I think I'd like to tell him how he made a sick - dying - man smile. Maybe not. The Browns went on to score another TD on a 51 yard TD pass from Mike Phipps to Milt Morin, and the game ended in a hard-fought 20-20 tie that felt like a win. Dad died the following spring, but I'll always remember that play when Greg Pruitt ran like the wind, and lifted both our spirits for a few moments on that cold winter's day.
Hope this story was not a downer to readers here, it is a happy memory for me.
My dad had been bedridden for over a year. He'd had a stroke a couple of years earlier and a tracheostomy, (a hole is made in the front of the neck to allow him to breathe), he could no longer talk and was slowly failing.
In his room at home we watched the 51-0 Browns over the Steelers game. It truly was laughable and did we ever laugh. A Browns defender just took the ball from a Steeler's running back and ran it in for a TD. We laughed like crazy at that.
At one point Bubby Brister threw a pass and it was batted right back to him, he caught it and was blasted. We laughed so hard we had tears and it took several minutes to stop and regroup. That was the best laugh fest he and I shared for years since and all the way to the end when he passed two years later.
The Browns are a big part of my life. To think how they provided an adult kid and his dad a day like that amid all the troubles we were going through brings a tear to my eye as it was one of the best memories of me and my dad over the last 10 years of his life.
While not one of my "favorites" - I loved when Mack got the hand off and greg lloyd was in the backfield with him - and Mack destroyed lloyd. I can't find a video of it though.
One of my favorite memories... Browns vs. Chargers from the early 90s. We were down huge (3 or 4 TDs). Kosar and the Browns went no-huddle, came back, went to overtime, LB int pass and returned it for a TD for the win. Anyone else remember that?
On recent teams (I'm barely old enough to remember any of the 90s)
A personal favorite: Brant Boyer layed a hit on a Saints player making him do a helicopter.
The obvious ones: Run William Run Cribbs return against the Steelers Quincy's Hail Mary catch The Dawson Bar (both Balt and Buffalo). The entire Buffalo snow game (Andra Davis). The Goalline stop against Atlanta.
A bad one: Earl Little piggybacking for 20 yards down field. I think against greenbay or Jamal lewis.
Derek Anderson's run against Kansas City..his first half game was great fun.
Ben Gay doing kick returns and being unpredictable..also a silly name.
Until the Northcutt drop, the Holcomb playoff game was great fun to watch.
Garcia to Davis - 99 yards.
Jerome Harrison out of nowhere breaks Jim Browns single game rushing record.
Jamel white.. no plays, but a fun little guy to have around.

If someone posts a link, he actually drops it.
If i remember right they actually reviewed the play to see if he caught it and they showed every angle and didnt have conclusive evidence that the ball ever hit the ground, so i say catch all the way.. Couldn't find it on you tube, so you'll have to just take my word for it, lol..

There are a bunch of great memories here, and y-tube is a wonderful thing.
A couple of things that I notice,
It is almost as though the characture of Sipe and Kosar is beyond belief, Sipe would will a team to victory, noodle arm and all, Kosar was.... well... gawky... is about the best thing you could say.
I miss the recievers.. Fletcher, Morin, Newsome, Rucker, Logan, Slaughter, and Langhorn... They were good football players. I was a big Mike Pruitt and Greg Pruit fan as well.
Eric Metcalf brings me mixed memories, for all of his open field elusiveness, I remember the Browns sending him between the tackles way too often.
Remember watching that sitting with my dad in the living room, My uncles left earlier thinking the game was over. I also member my dad yelling at slaughter to get to the beeping line at the top of his lungs. What the heck was he doing after that catch trying to clap everyone and there mothers hand on the sideline, lol.( did he think he scored) Glad kosar was a smart qb and grabbed his butt and dragged him back to the line..

I love this team!
Thats a great story Dubia, very touching. Only if art the rat knew the emotional toll he put us through when he moved OUR TEAM. This was more then a game to alot of us. It is a way of life. I never will forgive him and i am a very forgiven person. Good stories guys, really like this thread.

Another favorite play of mine was the Christmas eve game verse the oilers in 1989. When Kevin Mack scored from the 4 to win the game and clinch the Central division. On the downside one of my worst plays happen in that game too, when Clay matthews lateralled the ball to the wrong team. I remeber my dad calling him names i couldnt repeat as a 10yr old, Shucks i wouldnt repeat it now. After the game i got to open a present and it was a brand new football. I member doing my mack impression past my dad and into the christmas tree. I also got a taste of my first sip of alcohol, which i thought was kool aid and begged my dad for one sip which was red wine and almost puked.. I got to tell mack that story a couple of yrs ago and he got a kick out of it..
after watching a few clips referenced here... I seriously want Phil Dawson on this team.
Matt Bahr and Mark Moseley were both having a terrible time in these clips. Moseley had missed 3 in one game. Bahr had missed 3 game winning field goals that season.
Look what I found!
Phil Dawson's rushing touchdown
A compilation of Phil Dawson's greatest plays / game winning kicks.
Anybody remember the first play of the Browns' AFC-Central clinching win over Cinci in December, 1986? Kosar drops back and throws the bomb to Langhorne for 66 yards before half the fans at Riverfront are in their seats. Langhorne gets tackled just short of the goal-line, but Kevin Mack punches it in from the 1. The first punch in a big game was a haymaker, Browns go on to win 34-3. People nowadays forget what a great deep ball Kosar could throw before injuring his elbow.
Man that "woodyhayes68" that upped the "Immaculate Deception" is just awesome (sure I violated copyright, but howz bout a few coins for the twist on the title.)
My order:
Metcalf's 2 TDs Turkey (just because it felt so right) Josh's TD KO return you posted
I know I'm forgetting more than I can remember (comes with age).
Btw, I haven't gone thru the whole thread, but Metcalf's one-two on a pitch to the right on MNF against the Bengals was glorious. Him against two DBs at about the their 5 or so. I swear he had wings. Nothing but TD and jock straps on the field.
No doubt it should make the Top Ten of All Time highlight reel. But we lost that game and for some reason, probably partly due to Metcalf's effort on that play, that loss hurt me. I really don't know exactly why anymore. Maybe there was a local bengal fan and we were in a pissin' match on that game. Maybe I had money on it. I just don't remember. I guess it wasn't that big of a deal.
What I do remember is that every time I remember that game it hurts a little bit.
'94 vs. the cowboys in Irving. Aikman was driving the cowboys down the field with a TD needed for the win. It's 4th and goal when Aikman passes to Novacek in the middle of the field. Eric Turner hit Novacek at the 1 hard enough to knock the taste out of his mouth, ending the game.
That's also the last season I watched the Browns expecting them to win every game.
What a great thread! I didn't realize the NFL has allowed this many old videos online but i love it! I am a 23 years old, so I don't really remember most of these plays, but it is definitely great to watch them.
My favorite play, which has already been posted, has to be William Green's td run vs the falcons. It was the first Browns game i was ever able to attend, and boy was it a good game to attend. I remember he was so close all game to breaking one, and he finally did.
I know this is about favorite plays. But with a little patience, you might be able to find the ones you are looking for here: http://www.youtube.com/user/diz2001
This guy has uploaded a TON of browns games. There are some great stuff in here. Check it out.
