Woman is putting the decision to Abort her pregnancy at the hands of the internet.
http://www.birthornot.com/2010/11/01/we-...aign=birthornot

Woman claims that she'll go with the suggestion of the Poll... /b/ caught wind... And have been spamming a "No" vote... (obviously for the lulz)

She's still saying she'll take whatever the internet says...

Although... Part of me is saying that since she is freely asking the rest of the world instead of weighing the options herself; that she's not responsible enough to bear the weight of bringing another life into the world.

Imagine, if she starts to see herself as a bad parent... she'll have an out in her mind saying "It's not my fault my life and your life sucks... the internet voted that I should have you"

Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

*edit - the betting windows are open that this will turn into a political thread within a few hours - edit*

Can I vote for the kid to be born, and then the mom be aborted immediately afterward?

He caught wind of the poll, and has been spamming the "No" vote over and over again. "Did it for the lulz" implies a sense of regret for trolling .... but that it could have been justified in some manner, probably because of the heinous nature of the poll itself.

/b/ is the 'random' board on 4chan. The community is massive and anonymous and the content is basically not moderated at all. I don't go on there and it's definitely not for the faint-hearted. Read: extremely NSFW

for the lulz = for the lols/laughs/etc.

Considering that its use is becoming more and more prevalent, I don't kow what you're gonna be able to do about it .... outside of just dealing with it.

Unfortunately, it's not going to change for the better.

What can you possibly say about the original post?

I mean ... anyone who puts a poll on the internet to decide whether or not she has an abortion is beyond whacked in the head.

Based on the bio I think these people are scarred/traumatized from the miscarriages. Obviously no excuse for this sort of behavior but it might be a reason.

It's not shorthand... it's a meme or /b/ speak. Doing something "For the lulz" basically means "to take the (pee) out of " or for " (Craps) and Giggles"

Oh and I don't recommend anyone who might have an impressionable mind to visit 4chan... It's like the 9th circle... Literally...

Now, could someone please translate Collector's post for me? I still don't completely understand it.

When people say lol, are they literally laughing out loud? If you just want a shorter way to say something is funny, why not just go with ha? It's 33% shorter than lol

Taking it one step further, I've probably only RolledOFL once or twice in my life, and that was when I was probably under the age of 12.

Quick as I can here: My daughter is in 4th grade. I have helped out in her class since kindergarten - couple times a month. I'm on face book. Many of her friends are as well, and also kids that aren't her "friend" per se, but know me.

So, I have about 12 4th grade "friends" on facebook. If I check facebook after school hours, inevitably 2, 3, maybe 4 "chat" boxes pop up. "Sup?", "How ya doing Mr. Arch"...etc.

I couldn't say no to friending them.........well, I could've but I didn't.

yeah. if you set the privacy settings to the correct levels, they can have fun with their friends without being visible to pedophiles, they can learn how to type and use a computer, and mom/dad can keep an eye on their social life. using facebook correctly is all about understanding privacy settings

my nephew is in 3rd grade and most of his posts to his friends walls are as follows:

"hillis is beast"
"wanna play madden over live"
"can u ask ur mom if u can come over"

harmless and if the privacy settings are set correctly, then its all good

Agreed.

Ironically, I won't let my daughter have her own page. She gets on mine sometimes and only does the "chat" thing with her friends.

my nephew has his own page, but the email address on the account is his mother's so anything that gets posted, messaged, tagged, etc gets emailed to her for approval first.

*edit - we don't allow him to chat (you can turn it off) but it's good to see other parents trusting their children. - edit*

Yep, I get the whole privacy thing, it just seems odd to me that parents would allow their kids to get a facebook at such a young age. I would imagine that they would would have 5,000 facebook friends by the time they're in the 6th grade. Really, who would want their kid to have that kind of distraction??

5,000? we have the settings set so that he can only add friends, they can't add him. he only knows the 30 some kids in his class, maybe his cousins, and his parents. our school district doesn't even have 5,000. maybe the fact that he is a boy made the decision easier. he is hardly ever on it chatting with friends. he posts some youtube videos of football highlights or white stripes songs sometimes. and i dont think its a distraction if the parents have homework time set aside, play time set aside, and dinner time. facebook time goes into playtime.

I was being facetious when I said 5000 of course. Call me old fashioned or whatever, but I just think that 4th grade is a little young to be joining a social networking site, that's all. I'm not trying to put any parent down for it...that's obviously their own decision.

It just amazes that facebook would go in there with "playtime". And it could serve as a distraction eventually, because it wouldn't surprise me if these 4th graders will be getting cell phones soon, and will be able to access facebook on their phones.

I'm just saying that if I had a child that young, I would want to keep that temptation away from them as long as possible. I've seen older kids accessing facebook from their phones DURING school. Simply put, don't you think it's possible that we're teaching our kids bad habits at a very young age?

christy~I think I'm with you on this one. I'll probably follow my Aunt and Uncle's guide on this one. Their children were not allowed to have FB accounts until they were in school. But the kid has to be uber mature and get good grades and the grades cannot drop.

what bad habit would you be speaking of? checking facebook at school is the sign of bad parenting, not because the kid has facebook, but because the kid has not been taught respect. has nothing to do with facebook itsself. it would be as if the kid was caught passing notes in school. same principle. but should they stop learning how to read and write so they can't pass notes when they are in high school? no, you teach your child whats acceptable behavior and what is not. you let them be social with their friends and you keep an eye on them. you give them respect and trust you have taught them well enough so they make the right decisions. what bad habit is being taught? talking with their friends over the internet is wrong? if that is what you and i are discussing, then we agree to disagree because i would be a hypocrite if i believed that
