I have a 2006 Mustang GT that due to circumstance will have to drive this winter. Years past, I had a "winter car" so I never gave a thought to snow tires, but this year I definately have to think about it.
I'm not now and never will be "car guy" so I apologize in advance for my ignorance.
A few questions... 1. What's the best brand of snow tires for this area? (Northeast Ohio - very bottom of the snow belt) 2. Are some better for "muscle cars", specifically the Mustang, than others? 3. Is it really a necessity to get a full set of 4 or can I live for a few months with 2 on the back? 4. Are snow tires really worth it or would a set of good "all season" tires do the trick?
Other questions I'm sure will come to me later, but I'd appreciate any input you may have.

I really like to look at tirerack.com they have a lot of data on the different tires out therea nd they also have a lot of tests done. The Bridgestone Blizzaks are pretty good and pretty well priced...But I do suggest looking at the site and rading not only their reviews and ratings but they usually have tons of user reviews as well.
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...
What's the use of wearing your lucky rocketship underpants if nobody wants to see them????

Rear wheel drive in the snow is fun. I wouldn't touch any area with hills if the roads are snow covered. If you have to, put as much weight in the trunk as you can.

I would guess all you would need is the rear tires, I wouldn't cheap out on all season and just go with the snow tires. Do you do much driving for work? If so where?
If you are driving to Chardon everyday I'd say get 4 snow tires. If you drive to Akron I'd say just 2

Put one 50lb bag of salt in the trunk over each wheel well.
The extra weight will help give you traction and it will also give you salt should you get stuck and need some.

Good Lord. When I was a kid every car was rear wheel drive. lol My truck is rear wheel drive.
A little weight in the back end and a sensible driver and a rear wheel drive vehicle can get through anything a front wheel drive vehicle can.

Sure, just a lot harder, and easier to wreck. I'd like to see that mustang and a sensible driver tackle the 306 hill in bainbridge with 4 inches on the ground.

Best snow tires I've EVER had were Nokians. Made in Scandinavia - you know, where there's snow year round.
Those things grip like glue in snow. Just before I got them, I made a turn out of a parking lot in 4 inches of snow and slid all over the place and damn near hit a telephone pole. Flash forward a couple weeks, I now have the Nokians and make the same turn out of the same lot in 6 inches of snow. Took off like I was on dry pavement in the summer.
I will say that they are a bit expensive, but oh so worth it if you do any driving in snow, especially if you get into the snow belt at all.

I have a set of Michelin Hydroedge on my Ford Focus and those have served me well. They are all season tires, but get me up into the mountains in Colorado to ski regularly. They have handled snow covered mountain passes well.
