Kevin Curtis ready to return from testicular cancer
Posted by Michael David Smith on November 11, 2010, 8:06 PM EST

Former Rams and Eagles receiver Kevin Curtis has missed the entire 2010 season while recovering from testicular cancer. Now he’s fully recovered and eager to sign with an NFL team.

“Kevin is ready. He’s feeling great,” Ryan Tollner, Curtis’ agent, told Adam Caplan of FOXSports.com.

Curtis had surgery on September 23 to remove a cancerous testicle, but he said his prognosis was good and that “I’m pretty fortunate, really.”

After catching 77 passes for 1,110 yards in 2007, Curtis was slowed by knee problems in 2008 and 2009, but Tollner said Curtis’s knee is now 100 percent, and Curtis is anxious to help some team make the playoffs.

Thought this was worth mentioning.

Worth looking into?

I always liked Kevin Curtis.

Not sure if or how he'd fit on this team but with our receivers I have no doubt he'd contribute.

Good luck, Kevin.

He's young and has produced, we need WR big-time.

He also still has twice the balls of our previous #1 receiver.

Even Braylon would have to laugh at that.

Well Heckert probably knows a lot more about him than most. We shall see . . .

You're right, I hadn't thought about the Heckert angle.

Maybe we will take a look at him.

I couldn't imagine chemotherapy is indusive to training to be a NFL player. He has quite the fight ahead of him if he wants to regain that goal.

However, major kudos to him on fighting the fight and the best luck to him.

Hmm, I don't know about that.. Whos the American that won all those Tour de France races who recovered from the same type of cancer? the name escapes me for the moment.. He dated Cheryl Crow.......

much different type of deal there:

1. it actually helped him because prior to chemo, he was considered to "thick" to be a premeir cyclist. he wasn't thin and lanky enough. chemo took care of that.

2. cycling is a pure endurance sport. yes, it requires strength, but even more important is the great physical and mental endurance it requires. #1 spoke of the physical attribute, but another thing that Lance claims chemo helped with is the mental focus that chemo gave him. He was able to push pain to the back of his mind for extended periods of time and work through it physically which is exactly what is needed for cycling.

Now, Curtis will have a whole different set of problems.

A. At WR, he has to have his speed and strength that he had before. He can definitely regain these if he works hard enough.

B. His body has to be able to take the physical pounding that it did before. much different than just being able to endure as Lance did.

Not saying it is at all impossible and I hope he is able to do it. But, I'm just saying it's harder to go back to the NFL than cycling just by the nature of the sport.

Yeah,, Thanks..

Anyway, he overcame testy cancer and won a few more races afterward..

I know it's a tougher sport in that you get hit a lot, but in terms of stamina, bike racing has got to be harder right?

I don't know that 32 is considered young for a wide receiver...

Bring him in for a workout. It can't hurt, and he's what our WR unit needs.

I dunno, I watched plenty of games with Kevin Curtis because my best buddy in college was an eagles fan. I've found him to be inconsistent and he always seemed to get injured. I never thought his hands were that reliable either.

May be I just expected more out of him on the Eagles, but I always though he was a little more of a product of Donavan McNabb

But if he shows he can still play, I'd bring him in. I just don't know if he would be any better than Stuckey or MoMass, Cribbs has improved as a WR too

That's true, but Curtis always did have speed. We have none. If he can still play, it can't hurt.
