Steelers put Max Starks on IR

The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a major blow to their offensive line Wednesday as starting left tackle Max Starks was put on injured reserve with a neck injury, the team announced.

Starks, a starter on Pittsburgh's Super Bowl-winning teams during the 2005 and 2008 seasons, suffered stingers in his neck during Pittsburgh's win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night.

The injury leaves the Steelers without both of their projected starting offensive tackles. Right tackle Willie Colon is out for the season after injuring an Achilles tendon in June. The 28-year-old Starks will have neck surgery and the Steelers expect him back for the 2011 season. He has been one of the most consistent linemen in Pittsburgh for seven years. To fill the roster spot, Pittsburgh activated offensive tackle Chris Scott from the physically unable to perform list.

Scott, a fifth-round pick in the 2010 draft, missed the team's first eight games with a foot injury he suffered before training camp.

The Steelers are not very deep on the offensive line but have several options. Pittsburgh could move veteran right tackle Flozell Adams to the left side or try backup Jonathan Scott at left tackle.

With a reconstructed offensive line, Pittsburgh (6-2) will host the New England Patriots (6-2) Sunday in a big game matching two of the best teams in the AFC.

James Walker covers the AFC North for ESPN.com. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Even on the 'good' Cowboy plays, watch Flozell get beat. Enjoy your new LT Ben.

oh, and yes, I realize that Flozell got hurt in the 2nd quarter. But, this was the easiest game to remember how bad Flozell was and there are a good few plays at the beginning that show him getting beat.

This week I get to be a Patsy fan, huh. Right after I am done wailing for more Vickers and Hillis. History in the making? THEY will decide.

Only if he is running to his right. Get him going to his left and more often than not, good things happen for the Defense

I dunno..those injuries on the line will hurt them at some point..not to mention that terrible pass D of theirs...I think the word is out on tha secondary and I look for the Steelers to get torched down the stretch....I will not be suprised if Tom Brady torches them sunday...

Oakland has speed at the WR spots and beat them last year and Oakland is vastly improved this year..the Raiders may torch them too

then they have The Bills who are looking for the first win..I really hope its against the Steelers...they are going to beat someone..hopefully they pull the upset.

then they have Flacco, Bolden and company...and you know boldin will be licking his chops after seeing what TO did to these guys

Then they got cincy again and Cincy will probably go pass happy earlier and torch them again...I think they split.

Then they got the Jets, Holmes will be out to prove something to the team that traded him..holmes may have a huge day against them.

The Steelers are showing the SAME secondary problems they showed last year..they got lucky Cinci didn't have a kicker...no way the Steelers can keep winning down the stretch with that kinda secondary play...that secondary is awful....and they got some speed demons coming up on the schedule.

also, Big Ben needs an OL to block too so he can actually set up those runs....I think Ben starts getting sacked more often and Mendy will struggle in the running game due to that banged up OL

even if the Steelers get into the playoffs(and nothing is for sure) they are one and done...

In the meantime if they can put together another 5 game losing streak, I'll be OK with that.
