I'm attending the Browns Patriots game. I am looking for a hotel to stay in where we can easily walk to all the bars, restaraunts, etc. I know downtown doesn't have a lot at night. What area should I look to stay at hotel wise to accmplish this goal?

Hey, my wife and I are going to that game. We're staying at the Holiday Inn on Euclid. From my limited experience at going out in Cleveland, it's pretty close to some "name" restaurants.......we generally head to .............what's the name - crap - not going to remember it right now. So close to saying it.............close to where they had the circus a few years ago (heck, maybe every year for all I know).

House of Blues is close. And some other "name" places.

All depends on what "going out" means for you. For my wife and I, we don't look for a party place, don't stay out late.......

I'm going to think of the name of that bar............they have, like, garage door windows/doors...........HELP ME!

Never mind - Harry Buffalo's. Or Hairy Buffalo's.

The Flats are in the Flats. Ha ha ha....South about 4 blocks west of Gateway area (or the big mall). Sorry, I haven't been in downtown Cleveland in 5-6 years.

I thought the Flats was dead now too.

The area you don't want to go to.

If you're staying downtown, W 2nd street is very nice. E 4th St / Euclid is theater district.

If you're roaming about town, I used to live in the coventry/university circle/little italy area. Great part of town.

The Flats, as it used to be, is dead/defunct.

The East Bank is nothing but a pile of rubble now.
The West Bank - for which you'll need to take a taxi to get to from a hotel in downtown (downtown is on the East side of the river) still has a few things, but it is by no means what it used to be.

The West 6th Street area is the new nightlife area... it is within reasonable walking (stumbling) distance of most things in the central downtown area.

I've heard Lakewood is where you need to go to barhop.

Never been, but that's what I've heard from a lot of people.

There's definitely enough bars in Lakewood for that... there's either a bar or a church at the end of most every street

I grew up in Lakewood - there are plenty of bars, but they are spread out up and down Detroit and Madison Avenues. There is plenty of bar hopping to be done... I'm just not sure that you're going to be doing a lot of it on foot like you would down at West 6th St.

You need to head to Muni Lot on Sundays and look for Scott Nunnari's bus... it's the one with the helmet around the cabin and the dog legs over the rear wheel wells...... he has kegs on board, and he's an ordained (internet) minister

If your looking for a strip with a bunch of bars & clubs then W. 6th is the best spot. I like Barley House a lot. There's probably about 15 bars/clubs there.

There's also E. 4th. House of Blues & Corner Alley are cool. Harry Buffalo & Cadillac Ranch are also very close to E. 4th.

The west bank of the Flats still has Shooters and Christies (strip club) is right next door.

I would go for W. 6th though.

Most hotels downtown are within walking distance to W. 6th or E. 4th. You would need to take a taxi to west bank of Flats.

Don't go walking around the Flats at night unless you are skilled at knife fighting. It's back to 1968 levels.

The Crowne Plaza is where I stay when I stay downtown...it's a easy walk to most of the popular spots.

Cleveland is a pretty dark city with their brown street lamps....I usually walk to where I am going and opt for a cab on the way bak if after 10 pm...what's 7-8 bucks to get where you want to go
with no problems???

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

It was at that level as far back as 1996 - I know, cuz I got stabbed down there back then, lol.

Go over to W. 25th and hit up the places in thaÏ area. Bar Cento/Bier Markt (get the pommes frites), Great Lakes Brewery (goes without saying), Garage Bar (maybe a rockabilly band playing or just gaze at some roller girls), ABC (shoot some pool), Flying Fig, Touch Supper Club. This is, of course, after you have dinner at my absolute most favorite hole in the wall restaurant, Johnny Mango, at the corner of Bridge and Fulton, and maybe a drink or two right around the corner at momocho.

If you tire of all of that, grab a cab and check out some places in Tremont.

yeah east 14th and Euclid area is the theater district, actually going down Euclid all the way to around east 22nd area isall pretty happening now, some of that area is kind of part of the Gateway district. Don't believe the hype that Downtown Cleveland is dead.

There you go - full list there - bars, food and/or strip clubs.

If you do want something very unique: http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com/cleveland/

I would suggest doing it before the bar hopping but it's a very different exhibit and it's in Cleveland - right by the House of Blues area. Corner Alley is right there too and they run some great happy hour deals. Also a short walk to Cadillac Ranch that has 3 bars inside it as well as good food and a mechanical bull.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Does anyone have any good promotional codes or ideas on how to land a nice hotel in downtown Cleveland? Ive tried Priceline and all the other ones, but they still end up around 150 bucks per room (would love to find cheaper, if thats possibe). I'm bringing 10, so I need five rooms. Thanks in advance.

maybe I wasn't using the site right, but it was actually a few dollars cheaper for me to just book the room through the hotels website when my wife and I went to state college a couple weekends ago

I've had good luck with priceline doing the name your price option where you pick an area and price you want - did you try that or pick the actual hotel you want?

Just tried priceline and the 'Cleveland area' can get down to $38/night and that was w/o doing a name your own price.

On the name your price page for Downtown only it says: "Median retail price for a 3½ star hotel in the area selected is $132." From there I would start my offer around $70 and work my way up.
