LINK This little blurb was buried in an article in the News Herald, but I thought it was kinda cool: Closing in on fame
Linebacker Marcus Benard would become the first Browns player since Anthony Pleasant in 1995 and just the third since sacks became an official statistic in 1982 to get at least a half-sack in five consecutive games if he gets a piece of Joe Flacco on Sunday. Reggie Camp did it in 1984.

Benard missed practice today. I don't know why as he wasn't on the injury report to start the week.

Benard has 2.5 sacks in 2 games and would have 3.5 if not for a penalty...and he as of right now is a bench player. Not bad, not bad at all.

He should be starting on the outside with Fujita moving inside with Gocong. This would put that waste of roster space Barton on the bench.

There is only 1 reason I can think of that Barton is starting .... and that is that he makes the defensive calls.
Gocong and Fujita are both new to the defense this year, Roth has a handful of games, and Benard does as well.
That's the only logical reason I can think of for Barton not to be nailed to the bench.

He was doubled on virtually every play last week. Huge sign of respect.

Yeah and our monster 370lb lineman in Shaun Rodgers was 1vs1 most of the time he was in and just got pushed around. That guy has already packed his bags and wants out of this pathetic franchise that couldn't beat a decent high school team. Once Benard gets good he's gonna want out as well because waiting around for our coaching staff to build a winner he'll be old and grey.

Benard has been a huge surprise imo and he's earned that playing time.
