I thought this was interesting/troubling since many wanted us to draft him.

WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens second-round draft pick Terrence Cody failed his conditioning test Tuesday and was not permitted to participate in the team's first training camp practice.

The 360-pound defensive tackle out of Alabama signed a three-year contract Monday and arrived at McDaniel College eager to launch his NFL career. But after flunking his physical, he was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP).

"Part of our process is everybody's got to pass the conditioning test to be sure they're ready to compete," coach John Harbaugh said after Tuesday's practice. "It's going to be hot out here, our practices are fast. We've got to be sure guys are physically ready to practice at the pace we're practicing at.

"So, when he passes the conditioning test, he'll practice."

Years ago, Cody weighed over 400 pounds. After falling to the second round on draft day, he said, "I felt it was my weight and stuff that dropped me to this late."

And now, his NFL career will get off to a late start.

"I'm not surprised. Every year certain guys struggle with that," Harbaugh said. "Guys learn there's a certain level of expectation in terms of conditioning that goes with being an NFL player, especially for this team. So he's going to have to get himself in the type of shape he needs to be in."

Cody was drafted 57th overall by the Ravens. Baltimore's other second-round pick, linebacker Sergio Kindle of Texas, fractured his skull while falling down a flight of stairs last week and will probably miss the entire camp.

Ten players are currently on Baltimore's PUP list: Cody; safety Ed Reed; cornerbacks Fabian Washington, Lardarius Webb, Prince Miller and Walt Harris; linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo; offensive tackle Oniel Cousins; running back Matt Lawrence; and wide receiver Rodelin Anthony.

not huge news, especially considering he's a NT who had known conditioning issues, but not a great start to Ravens camp.

lose Kindle to a fractured skull and Cody can't practice because he is out of shape. 2 2nd rounders that won't be able to participate for awhile.

You would think that young NFL bound stars who are on the larger side would pay attention to these such stories of a crackdown on conditioning. I believe Casey Hampton has always been battling the weight issue also.

I don't feel sorry for him because he knew this going in and yet he just sidestepped the issue as to why many had questions about him. I feel sorry for their other player who had a freak accident of falling down two flights of stairs which will rule him out of participating in their training camp. Definitely not the way you want to start out your NFL career.

Not sure if we should feel sorry for Kindle either though.

He has a DUI. The next year he crashed into an apartment building and fled the scene to avoid DUI #2.

Now, he falls down 2 flights of stairs at 3am in the morning. Yes, this would be an assumption, but falling down 2 flights of stairs is awfully hard to do, and if you are doing it at 3am, with 2 previous drinking related flags on your record, assumptions happen.

yeah that was my first assumption as well. it may not be true, but based on his past, you have to connect the dots. if it is the case, i don't have much sympathy for him.

What? How does this happen to an adult? To an athlete?

Does this happen more often to professioal athletes than it does to the general population?

Fractued his skull while falling down a flight of stairs, I"m not saying it's untrue, I just don't Beleive It!

Does a reporter not ask any more questions than that?

" I fractured my skull while falling down a flight of stairs coach"

" Alright no more questions"
" When can you practice?"

" I'm going to miss all of camp"

" Well that's good enough for me, no need for explanation here"

Well, yeah, I guess it is. The guy is almost a two-legged horizon. He came to camp with his own zip code. Like, was camp a surprise? For the money involved . . . Look, I volunteer to be fat and unplayable for half of whatever he is getting. How long does he have to get in shape? Or what is required to assure he can be fielded?

As long as the guy is in the hospital, the reporter's can ask all they want, but the hospital can't give any detail.

If the accident is the result of alcohol use, I wouldn't expect Kindle, the team or friends/family to be forthcoming with that information, either.

People had major concerns about both Kindle and Cody entering the draft.

Huge concerns.

Injury concerns for Kindle and fat concerns for Cody.

People still wet themselves over the Ravens drafting both guys, exaulting the drafting skills of Ozzie and the entire Ravens draft team for getting both guys in the 2nd round.

Now, Kindle is injured and Cody is fat ....... and I suppose somewhere that someone is surprised ..... just not me.

That's true, you can't be too surprised about all this.

But when these guys finally make it onto the starting rotation, they are going to be beasts. Everyone will forget about this summer pretty quickly.

If I were a Ravens fan, I wouldn't be too concerned about Cody. It's being reported that he weighs 350, and he passed the test today. Many nose tackles have conditioning issues. Hampton has been held out of camp multiple years for lack of conditioning, but he has always played alright.

Perhaps.

I happen to think that Cody will be a bust with capital letters the whole way across ..... but that's just me.

I also did not want us to take a chance on Kindle. The Ravens have enough talent to take risks like that. We don't.

I think Cody will be very solid and we'll be disappointed he's on the Ravens. We needed safeties so we didn't really have an option to take him after berry went off the board in the first (possible exception of drafting thomas in the first.)

Kindle's a bum, though. Glad he's not on our team.
