I just wanted to let my fellow Dawgs know that hurricane Alex is about to slam the Mexican coast about 200 miles south of me at 100 MPH and the condition here in Corpus Christi are rough.

The winds have been gusting to about 45 MPH and we have had squall lines coming through about every hour or so. This is a big storm for this early in the season!

The beach is covered with the surge water and streets in parts of down town are under water.

Between today and tomorrow evening we are expecting about 8 inches of rain. There have been numerous tornado warnings and we remain under a tornado watch, which happens very seldom in this area.

For those that care my wife and my self are safe and thankful that we dodged a bullet.

Just wait till next season, I have heard that for over 40 years!

Take care. At least with hurricanes you can get enough of a warning to be safe - tornadoes are a different monster.

Yea it is good news but the fact that this is the first hurricane in the Atlantic basin in June since 1995 scares the hell out of me.

All of the professionals are predicting this to be a bad year and the start is not good.

I have been out at the beach and the water is very warm, which is not good as far as storms forming. The best I can explain it as bath water. The current water temperature is 87 degrees which for anyone used to lake Erie is about 20 to 30 degrees warmer.

It's a whole different world down here but I lived in central Ohio for 46 years and would not trade a winter down here for a winter up there!

The gulf is 87 degrees? Hold on to your hat, bud - that doesn't sound so good.

Oh yea, I walked across sand that burnt my feet to the water on Monday and there is no shock level at all.

And by the way anyone thinking of coming to the Gulf for vacation this is the perfect place. We have no oil and once you have experienced the south Texas Gulf you will swear by it!

Just not today.

Thanks Brownsfan, I just went outside and it is a really bad hair day.

The roar of the wind is cool but the flapping of the patio roof is a little alarming.

These storms are allot like the T-storms that y'all get but they last for hours. This one started this morning and is not supposed to end until tomorrow afternoon.

Tonight will be a long night!

Keep the weather radio on - and if it says tornado - get to shelter. Don't mess with them.

Hopefully you are far enough away from the water that you don't need to worry too much about flooding - but if you DO have to worry about flooding - head north young man! Get out of the danger zone. I learned my lesson a couple of weeks ago.

The bad thing about down here and tornadoes is that no one has a basement, the ground is not solid enough for that. The earth is either a sand based or clay based foundation and with the extreme dry or extreme moisture the earth moves a bunch.

Tornadoes do not come this far south usually unless we have a tropical system come in.

If one comes around we just get in a bath tub and throw a mattress over us!

Dude - seriously - that's what I thought until about 2, maybe 3 weeks ago. We don't have a basement but I always told my wife "ah, we'll be fine int he laundry room or under the steps to upstairs".

And then I saw pictures of the tornadoes that went through here about 3 weeks ago.........trust me, if it's a direct hit on your house, you're screwed if you don't have a basement. In fact, I did some work just today in one of the areas that was hit........it's a jaw dropping, "holy hell" kind of moment. And with a tornado, you don't have days, or even hours to take cover - .........

Thanks dude, I'm glad this storm didn't go your way because of the oil!

We would take another to save the Gulf!
