It listed the 25 most compelling transactions of the off-season (by Mike Tanier - Rotoworld). #1 on the list: Eagles trade McNabb to Redskins. "Once a Pro-Bowl-caliber passer, electrifying runner and, yes, respected leader, McNabb is now slow, injury-prone an overpriced. In other words, he's the very definition of a Washington Redskin." #5 on the list: Browns release DA, trade BQ to Broncos. "Last Season was the twilight of Cleveland football history. Fans and teammates divided into Team Derek and Team Brady camps. But Anderson was only effective during the full moon, and while Quinn sparkled in the sun, he was largely ineffectual. Mike Holmgren arrived in Cleveland with an aresenal of stakes and silver bullets to drive away the Browns' supernaturally awful quarterbacks." #13 on the list: Panthers release Jake Delhomme. "New starter Matt Moore has a 6-2 record in relief, but he just doesn't close his eyes and heave it into triple coverage the way Jake did." More Highlights: Projected Division Standings 1)Balt 2) Cincy 3)Pitt 4) Browns "The team has upside and should improve on the club's five-win season a year ago. In Cleveland, that is progress." "The West Coast offense will be a good fit for QB Colt McCoy, as it will play to his strengths - the ability to make plays on the move. McCoy is likely a couple of years away from starting, as that job belongs to Jake Delhomme." "The Browns didn't do a whole lot well last season, but they did run the ball effectively and were eighth in the league in rushing yards per game." "The Browns finished dead-last in the league in passing last season, and the 11 TDs scored on passes were the second fewest in the league. Just five of those TD passes went to WR's" "The loss of Wimbley to Oakland will be a tough pill to swallow." "Inside backers Kaluka Maiava and David Veikune showed some promise when pressed for playing time as rookies, and Matt Roth became a favorite in the final six weeks of the season for his knack of getting to the ball." My personal favorite tidbit was on the Browns team roster. If you read this same magazine, I bet you missed this or you would still be laughing. Rookie WR Carlton Mitchell was listed at 6'2" 296 lbs!!

It said Veikune showed progress, yet he failed to register a tackle and finished the season on the IR. I wish this guy would do his homework.

Progress doesn't always show up in the stats...

No but it should show up on the field, which by the way Veikune did not (to any extent worth mentioning). I realize we should have patience with a guy like Veikune, but geez why did the writer even bother typing his name?

he bothered mentioned his name because the Coach did. He was quoting Mangini.. I know you aren't suggesting he sensor the coach are you?

I don't know....I guess that depends on what you are trying to monitor.....Heartrate? Caloric intake? Cuss words per minute???
However I don't think he wants to "censor" the coach and keep him from making comments about different players during press conferences... (sorry had to do it...couldn't help myself....LOL)
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...
What's the use of wearing your lucky rocketship underpants if nobody wants to see them????

here is the snippet from the article posted above: "Inside backers Kaluka Maiava and David Veikune showed some promise when pressed for playing time as rookies, and Matt Roth became a favorite in the final six weeks of the season for his knack of getting to the ball."
I don't think that was a direct quote of Mangini, daman. It was a bullet form from the article (writer's interpretation), and I'd bet almost anything Mangini didn't see Veikune improving when "pressed for playing time" because I don't think Veikune saw much playing time at all. And if he did, he certainly didn't impress anybody.
Now, Veikune apparantly has shown improvement with these spring practises, but he sure didn't show much in 2009.

It's better than the new Sporting News Pro Football 2010 magazine: About Shaun Rogers: "The only Browns player to go to a Pro Bowl since 2001 faces a cloudy future" Hmmm, I seems to remember Cribbs going a few times, Pontbriand being the long snapper 2 years in a row and some guy named Thomas going all 3 years he's been in the pro's. About Phil Dawson: "It's hard to gauge him as a pressure kicker, though, because the Browns have only made the playoffs twice in his tenure." We've gone to the playoffs twice since The Return? Sweet! And here I thought we only made it in 2002! The sad thing is, the article was written for the Sporting News by Steve Doerschuk. Way to do your homework, Steve!

I can't believe that he was responsible for that. The guy writes more articles about the Browns than the rest of the local media combined and writes a very good blog, Fresh Brownies. No way he makes those mistakes.

These preseason previews are a joke. Most of them seemed to be thrown together in a few minutes off some crbb notes and hearsay. These guys write this crap, and if they are right about any team, they gloat about it during the season acting as if they actually knew, instead of the probability that they were just guessing.
These national writers, like the ones at Sporting News, follow the league leaders. I doubt highly if they have any in depth knowledge of any team other then say the top five in the league. They don't know the rosters, and barely know who the starters are. Not knowing that Thomas, considered by many the beat LT in the league, was in the ProBowl every year in the league should show their incompetence. Also, I believe Rogers didn't make the ProBowl last year.
These are worse than the pre season power rankings. Which come out at this time of year also. All they do is judge teams by the previous years, and who they might have drafted or signed as a FA, and rate them as good or bad by unproven potential of big name recognition.
I also would have to believe that Doerschuck, may have been quoted, but I find it hard to believe he could write such an unknowledgable story about the Browns. He is well tuned to the team, and IMO usually a pretty good writer
These magazines like Becketts are rags that rehash garbage and premote themselves as insiders. Most of these "previews" could be done better by average fans like me and you. What hurts, is that much of the crap on the NFL network is just as bad.

It looks like the writers needs some OTA's and Mini-Camps to get back into shape as well.
"Jameis Winston: guaranteed to throw 6 TD's/game. Tune in next week to see which team benefits-"

I agree with you 100% I needed something to read on the plane and thought I would share. I actually bought it thinking it was a fantasy magazine but instead it was this garbage for $7
