Rules violations. Ooops. I do remember last year when some people were proclaiming from the highest mountaintop that Mangini nhad to be breaking the rules. Some of those people said that no one ever gets caught, but that he was guilty anyway. Guess someone got caught. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5261308OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens have been ordered by the NFL to cancel their final offseason training camp because of a violation of workout rules. Reacting to a complaint filed by the player's association against the Ravens, the league on Monday canceled the last week of Baltimore's organized team activities, scheduled for June 14-18. According to the NFL, the Ravens "violated the rules concerning the intensity and tempo of drills conducted on the club's organized team activity days." The league also cited the Ravens for "the length of time spent by players at the team facility" on those days. Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome says, "We made a mistake, and it won't happen again." Ravens players will not be permitted at the team complex in Owings Mills next week, but will be paid for the sessions. The club cannot reschedule the canceled days.

I read about this somewhere yesterday, I think it was Plusmo.. (free app on my Iphone)
What struck me funny was that it was the Ravens.. Generally speaking, Ozzie has always been commended for running a solid program..
I guess if it can happen there, it can happen anywhere...

Wouldn't the blame for this go against the HC? just curious as to why you'd mention Ozzie.

It's one of those "the buck stops here" kinda things,., "Here" being Ozzies desk.
Everything that happens is under Ozzie in one way or the other.. But yeah, the HC is clearly the front line guy responsible..

The GM HAS to know everything that is happening. If he does not, then he is not doing his job. Sure the coach is the person responsible for what happened, but I bet that Ozzie knew what was going on. Probably been happening for years, just noone has spilled the beans.

Being groomed for the Bigs is Rodriguez. First you break the rules, cripple a struggling program, get probationed, and then you are ready to move up. One hysterical dig there. Still laughing . . . Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch. Time off for bad behavior. Really surprised by this.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/nfl/06/09/raiders.OTAs.ap/index.htmlALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) -- The Oakland Raiders have been forced to cancel the final two days of their offseason program. The league and players union announced Wednesday that they had resolved an unspecified dispute about the team's offseason program. The release said the team would cancel organized team activities scheduled for June 16 and 17. Players will not be permitted at the facility but will be paid for the sessions. The Raiders have one additional OTA session scheduled for Thursday and another next Tuesday. The Raiders lost a week of their offseason program in 2007 because of the intensity of practices under coach Lane Kiffin.

I would assume that most teams probably have similar workout schedules/patterns; however, it seems that the NFL is making a statement by punishing a few organizations. Probably as part of a compromise with the players' union to show that they in fact ARE listening and DO care (whether they really do or not). And possibly they are trying to pave the way for the CBA discussions?

The best explanation we get is " the intensity and tempo of drills"
and also they spent too many hours at the facility on those days.
The missed days will probably be replaced under the radar in some way anyways.
Side note! I sure wish the ravens would have been sent to NFC west obscurity where I didnt' have to care about them for 4 years at a time instead of the current situation.
I don't know how anyone could root for the Ravens outside of a life long Baltimore resident, at this point anyway. I don't want to hear good news or bad news about that team.
