Hey all I have just recently gotten into UFC and am trying to learn more about it,so I would love to have a discussion involving people who have been a fan for a while. I am enjoying the new season of The Ultimate Fighter, I have been somewhat of a Chuck Lidell fan for a while and I like how he dogs Tito "the wife beater" Ortiz. This coming up weeks episode is the one where Tito punks out of his match with The Iceman. Ortiz really irritates me. I know Chuck is past his prime and he has suffered a couple high profile losses recently but I still like him. Big match tonight right? Rampage and Rashad Evans? Anyone have the hook up so I can watch it without paying 45 bucks? KING

I use to watch UFC and Pride back in the late 90's early 2000's but I wasn't really into it. I was more of a boxing fan. But TUF 1 got me really into MMA and now it's hard for me to even watch boxing. As for Ortiz punking out I think that Dana and Joe Silva are really behind it. There was a lot of negative buzz about Chuck vs Tito 3. Chuck won 1 & 2 in convincing fashion so there really isn't a reason for a rubber match.
Chuck vs Rich is a much more interesting match up IMO.
But I try to watch all MMA, not just UFC. Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery was pretty good and Fedor is fighting next month against Fabricio Werdum. Winner should be fighting Overeem later this year.
As for Rashad vs Jackson, that is next weekend, May 29th. I will send you some info in a PM.

Yeah but it irritates me that Tito will not give Chuck the credit he deserves for beating him the way he did twice, Tito still crys about a supposed thumb in the eye and phantom injuries. I want to see Lidell KO Ortiz one more time just to put a exclamation point on it,to hopefully shut Tito up.
I am not really familiar with Rich, I think at his age The Iceman needs the motivation to really train hard and I wonder if anybody but Ortiz can motivate him in the way he needs to be motivated.
I have also kind of wondered how the scoring system works in UFC,are they counting strikes like in boxing, how about ground control? How does it all add up?
I also have no idea what is legal, and what is not. I guess the groin is off limits, and it seems back of head and spine. Can you kick a guy when he is on ground? I saw a guy on TUF get disqualified for hitting a guy in the fce with a knee when the guy was on his knees.
How about Brock Leznar? I am a fan of his,guy seems raw but damn he is a beast!!

You got the rule right. If a fighter has a knee down you can't kick or knee him. Once the knee comes off the ground he's open to get rocked. The back of the head is a no no like you said. Eye poking can get a point too, and a time out. I think I've seen a couple ref decisions to where they gave instructions and the instructions were ignored. I don't think there are many other rules in the UFC. Pride has slightly different rules about the down fighter and kneeing them. I think tito is a jerk as far as that goes. So is chuck in many ways. I like Chuck more though. Guy has had an awesome career and deserves respect. Seems they could have gotten a lot of better coaches (for the match at the end at least!). Makes me wonder about payouts in a payperview (and the training they have to get in before it), and how much TUF coaches will get for what they do. Given you don't make much more is it worth it?

Kicking a downed opponent other than the legs is not allowed. You can knee an opponent to the body on the ground but a knee to the head of an opponent who has at least one knee on the ground is also not allowed.
Can't eye gouge, groin shot or the back of the head. Each Athletic commision has the right to add additional things. Montreal said you couldn't foot stomp (When your against the cage and one guy stomps on the foot of another guy), and I think Illinois doesn't allow elbows at all.
As far as scoring it can be frustrating at times to figure out what a judge is doing. Much in the same as boxing. It is suppose to be a 10-9 system and are base off of:
Striking Takedowns submissions Octagon controll
So if Fighter A lands a couple of strikes to Fighter B in the first minuet but Figher B takes down Fighter A and for the last four minuets he has control, lands some strikes and trys some submissions you would award Fighter B the round. If Fighter A at least defended and maybe tried some of his own submissions then you would give Fighter B 10 and A 9 for the round. If Fighter B totaly outclassed and brutalized Fighter A you might make it a 10-8 round.
The one thing that annoys me is the judges always feel the need to give someone a round when IMO it would be perfectly acceptable to award a close round a 10-10 draw.

Check out P2P Sports. You can usually find an internet TV Station to watch it on. They will have some channels listed but you may want to check out the forums. 1st thing you need to know is ignore what Go Browns has to say she is a huge Tito fan. I think she wants to leave her family and run away with him. Lidell is just a shell of himself. He no longer possess the speed to dodge punches. Tito is all about the ground and pound. I don't think he really likes getting hit and it shows in his stand up. It should be an interesting fight between Rashad Evans and Rampage. Evans is a very accomplished wrestler (Michigan State) but he choose to fight off of his feet. He has looked out of shape in some past fights but I don't think that will be a problem tonight. Rampage is another fighter who doesn't always come into matches ready to fight. At times he seems disinterested. He is freakishly strong and loves to slam people. In pride someone had him in a guillotine on the mat. He stood up, lifted his opponent over his head (all while still in the hold) and slammed him to the mat.

Well i question how much coaching Tito and Chuck are actually doing, and how much of it is really the coaches from their camps that are doing it. Especially in Chucks camp. Tito seems to be a bit more involved in coaching his fighters but the way he begs and pleads with them is really irritating. I think Chucks guys from The Pit are pretty much doing all his coaching. I think Chuck and Tito are pretty much their to drum up a story line, and their match on the finale of TUF was there to draw people in. WHo knows what is going to happen now?

Rampage should win this one . My favorite fighter is Frankie Edgar ...only thing the kid does is win no matter how big of an underdog. Lesnar and Carwin should be an excellent battle ,,can't wait.

I think Carwin is the only guy big and strong enough to beat Lesner. Lesner is one of the fastest big men I have seen. If he gets Carwiin to the ground it will end quickly.

IMO Striking Carwin 7 Lesner 4
Wrestling Lesner 9 Carwin 7
This will be a huge test for Brock. He will be fighting someone he doesn't outweigh and Carwin has a huge Advantage on the feet. Should be a pretty good fight.
Also Brock would have been out of the cage for 1 year. He might have some "Cage" rust.

I wonder if the UFC will ever add a super heavyweight division?
I saw a Lesner fight where he tagged the guy on the chin, the guy staggered back and fell to his knees and Brock ran full speed across the ring and tackled the guy at full blast. I was just amazed at his speed and power.

IMO the HW division is the least talented and watered down division. Spliting it by making a Super HW wouldn't make much sense to me.
If they add any division it should be a 195 division and split up the deep 205 division.

I will be interested to see if lesnar could take a power punch. no one has landed a good shot to his chin so far in his career.

I don't watch much UFC at all, and I'm not schooled in the intricacies of MMA like some folks around here are, but I really like watching WEC events when they air on Vs. WEC is a sister promotion to UFC that carries lighter weight classes and has some guys that are, to my untrained eye, pretty exciting to watch. Their last big event was their first PPV event so I haven't gotten to see it yet, but the event prior to that was held at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. The current lightweight and featherweight champs (Ben Henderson and Jose Aldo, respectively) are both excellent fighters.

Thing about guys that big and powerful is that few could take a power punch from anyone in the class.

You know me well. I LOVE Tito! That whole bad boy thing -mmmm. My bf got me the Tito action figure for Christmas. And he didn't beat that porn star gf of his - no charges being filed by DA. She is way to flaky for him, I on the other hand am very stable.
That being said, I also like Chuck. There are only a few fighter I don't like. I think it's a great sport to watch. Between Punishment Athletics and American Fighter, I own at least 6 tanks/tee shirts.
Now seriously....I like Rampage this Saturday. Although Evans is no slouch. I underestimated him coming out of the TUF. Actually met him at UFC event in Columbus though and he was super cool, so if he wins I'm ok with that too.
I'd like to see the guy from Strike Force, ALISTAIR OVEREEM fight Lesnar. You can't knock Lesner for his strengths, but I feel like he isn't a very well rounded MMA fighter and I don't think he has any class in regards to the sport.
Another thing to note in the UFC is you can't grab the cage. Usually the ref gives a warning, but will take a point away if it continues...although sometimes it seem like it's the discretion of the ref on how many warnings he will give a guy.
We have had pretty good luck finding the fights on sopcast. Sometimes you get delays (or once we even had to watch it in another language) but it beats paying $45.
I'm looking forward to GSP vs. Koscheck myself. I hope GSP beats the daylight out of Josh - can't stand the guy and he's from Pittsburgh.

LIVE - From Japan - Only the 2nd time a DREAM event will be in a cage!! Hayato Sakurai vs. Nick Diaz Joachim Hansen vs. Hiroyuki Takaya Ralek Gracie vs. Kazushi Sakuraba Norifumi Yamamoto vs. Kiko Lopez Ikuhisa Minowa vs. Imani Lee Yoshiro Maeda vs. Kenji Osawa Hideo Tokoro vs. Akiyo Nishiura Kazuyuki Miyata vs. Takafumi Otsuka Obviously Diaz vs Sakurai is a good match but also check out Yamamoto and I did see Maeda fight Miguel Torres a few years ago and it was called fight of the year. This card is in Japan so it will be on at 3am. I will be setting my alarm clock so I can get up and hit record on the Sopcast channel and I'll watch it tomorrow. You can watch it two ways (that I know of). You need to either have Sopcast installed or TVU. Both are 3rd party P2P streaming software. Sopcast TVU

Well I got sopcast installed and am crossing my fingers that I am able to watch tonight.
So what are peoples final predictions?
I say Rashad Evans will win by submission late in the fight after he wears Rampage down, I think the only way Jackson wins is if he does it early.

AT 9 pm the prelims will start on Spike. I caught a break and my nephew offered to pay for the fight if him and a few of his friends can watch it at my house on the big screen. They want to watch it at Uncle Steves because Uncle Steve will allow them to have a few beers. KING

Hathaway is destroying diego. Why in the world did he move back to WW? He is too small to be fighting at 170lbs. Should be 30-27 hathaway.
Ouch judges had it 30-27, 30-27, 30-26. John Hathaway.

Yeah I agree. You have to give it too him. That was equlilant to shone carter's spinning backfist on Matt sera. Russow was getting worked and pretty much connected one punch. But that's all it took.

One of THE most disappointing fights of all time . All the hype and these two put on a show like that ? Pathetic is the only thing that comes to mind . I would be so pissed if I had paid money to be ringside for this garbage .

Wow, Rampage could of had this fight despite being outclassed in round 1 & 2. He had Rashad rocked and didn't attack and Rashad was able to get his legs back. He must have had nothing left in the tank. Congrats to Rashad. He took Rampage out of his game, leaned on him and drained him. Great excecution.

::gonzo::
This sport should be decided in the first round. No sense waiting. Come out HARD...looking to hurt someone. Its only three freaking rounds---its not a boxing match.
UFC uses the first two rounds to determine what always ends in the third---minds well skip the first two and decide it in one.
These guys are all or nothing types. You worked for this...now take it.
I don't understand the rational in waiting.
Hit hard and finish early....that is the only strategy.
I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

The sport is evolving to a point where people are more hesitant to engage automatically. The best fighters in the game are "Counter Punchers". More fighters are exposed to BJJ and Muai Thai than even a couple years ago.
With so many fights going to decision lately methinks Dana should add a minute to each round.

that strategy isn't for everyone. sugar is the better athlete and wrestler. why have a brawl, with the possability of a ko, when you could win it like he did tonight. you fight to your strengths, just like in boxing.
