So, every year we've got people saying they've rooted for so and so or called how some obscure 6th round pick would stud out etc etc etc.
This year, I'm thinkin we put everyone to the test.
I propose a fantasy type game. Here's the deal:
- You become essentially the Browns front office. You are provided with the Browns 10 picks they had rolling into the draft which are (round wise) 1 2 3 3 3 5 5 5 6
I haven't looked up the numbers of the exact picks but we do need 'em.
- These are the picks you have to use, not the picks that the Browns wheeled and dealed for on draft day. - From these picks, you must select the following: 1 QB 2 RB 2 WR 1 TE 1 DLine 1 Linebacker 1 Corner or Safety 1 Whichever you please
- You are not picking FOR the Browns. You are picking for fantasy points. - You can only select people that were still available at the given pick. For example, I cannot pick Jimmy Clausen with the 3rd round pick but could pick him with my first or second.
- If one of your selections is injured/cut/holds out, too bad. You effectively lose that player from your board.
- The scoring structure would be as follows 1 pt per 25 yards passing 1 pt per 10 yards rushing 1 pt per 10 yards receiving 6 pt per TD 1 pt per tackle 6 pt per sack 6 pt per INT
- I'll play scorekeeper using an agreed upon site for stat retreival. Either NFL.com or espn.com.
- The structure is non-debateable. I'm throwing this out there cuz I think it may be fun. I don't want to get into the tiny details. If its fun, we'll do it again next year and make changes then.
- As things are always better when there's something at risk, I propose the following stakes. The top player will receive a custom jersey of a Browns rookie of their pick paid for and sent by the person who finishes last. Just the replica one, not the full stitched game style. Maybe 80 bucks out of your pocket. Everyone realize that if you volunteer to play, those are the stakes. Welchers will be ostracized. Maybe lynched. Just don't finish last and you're cool.
SO who's interested?

that is an absolutely fantastic idea. and if you are willing to do the gruntwork for scoring purposes, even better (you can likely put your scoring system into a Yahoo! or ESPN, et cetera Fantasy football setup that will automatically update the scores that you could then just periodically post here).
the only issue will be coming up with a method for people to post rosters without other people poaching their ideas/players (so everyone has a blank slate to start with to be fair).
perhaps, we could each PM you (and you'd be on the honor system...your game, so I think that's fair) and then you post each person's roster choices after whatever deadline has closed?

I would love to do this. I love the draft and think this would be a fun way to keep up with those players we thought would be good. I'm in if this thing pans out. I agree with the other poster I think we are all adult enough to post our scores....so you don't have to do all the reaserch each week.

I'd play that game. Is there going to be a draft?

No draft. Just pick the players.
Yes, best way would be to PM me. We'll settle on a date and I'll PM my draft to a neutral third party prior to that date to ensure we're 100 per cent fair.

Well, interested parties, including me, only stands at 4. I'd like to get at least 10 people in to make it worthwhile....
Do the stakes make this a no-go?

So rookie minicamps are done.... But I want to get this game up and running before training camps start.
Why? Part of this game is to have people put their weight behind their draft chops. Fact is, every year, certain draftees get cut in camp (ie Don Carey last year for us). I want this game to have this factor in.
However, to further simulate the offseason experience, I'm adding one factor to the puzzle.
In addition to your draft picks, you can also add 3 guys who were UDFAs. These can be guys at any position. However, on a week to week basis, only your draft rosters 10 highest scores will be used. This gives a little flexibility if guys get injured or whatnot and gives a ray of hope to anyone who gets hit with injuries off the hop.
I'm setting a deadline of next Friday, May 25th to submit your rosters to me. I'm going to do my roster directly so I can't steal any good picks from submissions I receive. I'll even kick it to someone on here and get them to vouch that I've submitted it. I'll have that done by tomorrow afternoon at the latest.
So, if you're in, pick your squad and throw me a PM with your picks. In your submission, please acknowledge that you understand the stakes and are willing to play them. Here's something to cut n paste if you feel lazy.
I agree that if I have the bad luck to finish last, that I will contact the person who has finished first and receive their pick of what Browns jersey they would like. I will purchase said jersey from the Browns store or alternate reputable supplier and send to the winner, along with my eternal shame and chagrin.
The jersey in question will be a replica jersey, not one of the full stitched on jobs. Unless I'm rich...in which case, I shouldn;t be so cheap
If we can get 10 people in, I'm happy to run this game. Less than that, then its not really worth the effort.
Game on Dawgs.

Just a suggestion ... you might want to start this in the game forum, as we are fast approaching the time where the draft forum tends to disappear from existance.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Here's an example:
Round 1, Pick 7 (7 overall)- CJ Spiller RB Round 2, Pick 6 (38 overall)- Sergio Kindle LB Round 3, Pick 7 (71 overall)- Brandon LaFell WR Round 3, Pick 21 (85 overall)- Colt McCoy QB Round 3, Pick 28 (92 overall)- Mardy Gilyard WR Round 5, Pick 3 (134 overall)- John Skelton QB (flex) Round 5 Pick 15 (146 overall)- Andrew Quarless TE Round 5 Pick 29 (160 overall)- Anthony Dixon RB Round 6 Pick 8 (177 overall)- Cody Grimm S Round 6 Pick 17 (186 overall) - Clifton Geathers DE
UDFAs LaGarette Blount RB Austin English DL Jevan Snead QB
So my roster would shake out as
QB- Colt McCoy RB- CJ Spiller RB- Anthony Dixon WR- Brandon LaFell WR- Mardy Gilyard TE- Andrew Quarless DL- Clifton Geathers LB- Sergio Kindle CB/S- Cody Grimm Flex- John Skelton
With Blount, English and Snead as my UDFAs
Each week the top 10 scores of the total roster would be counted. Even if, for some reason, McCoy, Skelton and Snead all played. It will not be position discriminatory.
I realize there's gaps in this system but rather than point em out, lets try it one year and make changes if its fun for the next.

The 60-80 dollar penalty for coming in last has me hesitant to join the game. Anyone else holding back for that reason?

How about the idea of getting a free jersey for finishing first?
If the gamble isn't your gig, fair enough. I tend to be more interested if there's something at stake. If people don't want any stakes on it, I'd play but I;m not as interested in running it.

My team is picked...just need to appoint someone to be in possession of it so everyone knows I didn't "borrow" ideas.

There's clearly no interest in this as no one has gotten back to me. Guess it's not gonna work.

We will just have to continue to pimp our favorite guys. I think the boys I liked will do really well. Clausen in particular is in a great position to win a starting gig on a good team. Clausen, Spiller, Iupati, Demaryious, Hughes and Haden will all be good players this year. I have Spiller and Hughes penciled in as O and D ROYs. I also like Alualu, Chad Jones, and Te'o Neshiem. If I was Holmgren I would have taken Te'o Neshiem ahead of Colt. Didn't pimp him before the draft, but I like Hardesty's odds on being productive as well especially since Harrison is holding out. I can easily envision a lot of Browns fans being won over by his game who weren't really behind the pick at the time (like me). So I guess if these fellas do great, I'll have to dig this thread up and gloat. If not, I'll let it die a quiet death like my Utah thread.
