LINK Would be interesting to see if Heckert goes after him even with his issues....also seems like a Mangine type lineman in terms of size PHILADELPHIA -- Shawn Andrews' star-crossed career in Philadelphia is over. The Eagles released the former All-Pro right guard on Wednesday in a move that was expected. Andrews, who missed the 2008 training camp because of depression, has played in just two games the past two years because of back injuries. "We appreciate the efforts and contributions of Shawn while he was in Philadelphia," coach Andy Reid said in a statement. "We have, however, decided to move in another direction." Andrews wrote "Bye, Bye Birds" on his Twitter page. He also said he plans to continue playing. Andrews' passion for football had been questioned during his time in Philadelphia. Critics said he was more interested in his music career. The eccentric Andrews posted some videos on YouTube last summer while he was sitting out practices. Selected with the 16th overall selection in the 2004 NFL draft, Andrews missed his rookie season after breaking a leg in the opener. He overcame weight issues and rebounded from his injury to emerge into one of the top players at his position. Andrews made the Pro Bowl in 2006 and '07 and had a contract that ran through 2015. Last offseason, the Eagles signed Andrews' older brother, Stacy Andrews, to a lucrative contract even though he was coming off knee surgery. Shawn Andrews was moved to right tackle to replace longtime starter Jon Runyan and Stacy Andrews was supposed to play right guard. However, the brothers never played a down together with the Eagles. Despite his talent, Shawn Andrews was known more for his offbeat personality. He sported faux-hawk haircuts that sometimes were dyed blond or red, and often wandered through the locker room singing out loud. Runyan retired from the NFL earlier this year to run for a House seat as a Republican in a historically Republican district in New Jersey. His campaign formally begins Thursday. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

As I said before, if he is healthy and his head is screwed on straight he is worth a look.
But I don't think the Eagles would release him if he is healthy and his head is screwed on straight
Maybe he just needs a change of scenery? I don't know.

i'm hoping he just wasn't willing to restructure his contract for Philly and his risks at his salary outweighed his benefits to them.

Why would we trade a 4th when he's an RFA with a 4th round tender.
The Browns could sign him to a poisoned contract and give up the 4th if they were that hot on his trail.
Now maybe if there was talk of trading a 5th or lower that might make sense ....

With no cap in place it is harder to poison a contract.

That is simply paying more than the other team wants to pay....it's always been like that....to poison a contract is much different.
In the past the most common way was to offer a large up front bonus sum that the other team wouldn't be able to fit under the cap without subtracting somewhere else.

Depends on the poison. $50M bonus for playing x games in the state of Pennsylvania.

Not really.
Let's use Simms as an example:
The Browns sign him to a deal that states that if he plays more than 4 games per year in the state of Washington, he gets a $100 million bonus.
Wouldn't impact the Browns in the slightest ... but would absolutely destory the Seahawks if they wanted to keep the player for the tender amount.
With no cap in place, the Seahawks "could" match .... but almost certainly would not because the player is sinply not worth that much money, even in an uncapped year.

The "poison pill" method of writing an offer sheet -- including terms in the offer that the original team can’t match without tremendous hardship on their payroll and/or other players' contracts -- may be a relic of the past. This certainly happened in 2005 with the Vikings, who "poison-pilled" Steve Hutchinson away from the Seahawks but have been dormant since.
It almost occurred again in 2007 when the Patriots were poised to do something dramatic to obtain RFA Wes Welker from the Dolphins. That attempt, however, was forestalled when the teams’ owners -- Robert Kraft and Wayne Huizenga -- mutually agreed to trade Welker rather than have him pilfered through an unconventional offer. More owners feel that kind of tactic is outside their comfort zone, and although there are no restrictions against it, the league has been advising against such moves for years (it seethed at the Vikings for that tactic with Hutchinson).

The Eagles let Andrews go for a reason...or two!
IMO, Andrews is fat, lazy and out of shape, for the most part. This guy was ready to retire and enjoy the good life 2 years ago....not the kind of guy the Browns need.
The following touches on his last two seasons with the Eagles...
Andrews mysteriously departed the Eagles at the end of June 2008. Later he failed to report to training camp at Lehigh University, without notice and without being excused. He cited unexplained "personal issues" in various text messages with reporters. In a newspaper article released on August 4, 2008, Andrews claimed he was suffering from depression and was seeking professional help.[2] He eventually missed 17 days of camp, and returned on August 10.[3] Andrews started in the first two games of the season, but he left in the second game with a back injury. The Eagles did not put him on injured reserve, but the injury caused him to miss the rest of the 2008 season.[4]
Andrews had surgery in the 2009 offseason, but he re-injured his back at the start of training camp, which caused him to miss the entire preseason and the first week of the 2009 season before he was placed on the injured reserve list on September 15, 2009.

j/k
I can believe some people are willing to sign this guy, I'd rather take my chances on a rookie or someother FA. This guy is a cracker jack, he's not the same player or person he was two years ago, We dont have time for anymore projects we need stable hard working player.
To Let Hank go and turn around and sign a lazy guy who hasnt played in two year is crazy, no matter how talented that lazy guy was in the past....

JMHO, but this is another step towards the Elephant Graveyard rep some have hung on the Browns and Raiders in my conversations. Rather spend our 4 on a solid youth with upsize. May find a number of half-decent guys in this range. No head cases allowed beyond this point.

Do not sign this guy. The Elephant Graveyard comment, If that means the player is beyond his best playing days, then I second that.
" has played ? games in the last 2 years because of a back injury. "
Seriously ! ? ?!
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Browns not interested in Shawn Andrews Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 20, 2010 8:23 PM ET One of the logical possible landing spots for Shawn Andrews after his recent dismissal was Cleveland. After all, Browns G.M. Tom Heckert watched up close the man that SI's Ross Tucker said was once the "best guard in the league." It seems that familiarity isn't helping Andrews' cause in this case. Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports that Heckert is "well-versed" in Andrews' history of depression and injuries. The Browns won't go after him. Those that know Andrews best have thrown in the towel on him, which will give other decision makers around the league pause before making a contract offer. web page
