New 2012 Aveo There's a pretty nice car at GM land these days....it looks miles ahead of the old Aveo...the Fords are swoopier, but the GMers have always been more conservative style wise. '12 Aveo='11-12 Fiesta '11 Cruze='12 Focus '11 Malibu='11 Fusion '11-12 Impala='11 Taurus It's nice to see Americans come out with nice cars nowadays and not just trucks. I became disenchanted with American car makers in '99-00 after everyone moved toward trucks. Motor Trend even had a spinoff mag called Truck Trend...the economy collapsed, and while that sucks, it's neat to see a reversal to compact/midsize cars--my favorite category...when I was designing that's what I focused on. Honda/Toyota needs to get better. Honda probably will be fine, though. The Koreans are becoming threats. To the original point. Don't call it an Aveo. Call it a Chevette and make it good.

Yea the first gen Aveo and short lived G3 were atrocious vehicles. This looks like a nice competitor to the Focus/Golf/Fit stalwarts.

Fiesta/Yaris/Fit
Focus and Golf are C-segment cars, Fiesta/Aveo/Yaris/Fit are B-segment. Smart Fortwo is an A-segment.

Lately there has been good reason to hope American car companies have finally seen the light. Quality is important but where I see real improvement is that they've come to respect the importance of a fine interior. 99% of my car experience will be from behind the steering wheel. Far too long Detroit have gone with exterior style while substituting cheap interior materials to save a few bucks. It seems their attitude has finally come around to putting the dough where the driver is most aware.

you're right. I forgot this too: The Chevy Spark is an A-segment car. I wonder if Ford will have an A-segment car as well. In some ways, I feel the high fuel prices are a blessing in disguise. I got my '05 Rolla and it's great...those things do NOT drop in resale value :-( and they're not cheap. Mine had 83k when I got it last March and it's at 107k now. I put on 25k mileage per year.
