Heavy Rain is being released tomorrow (2-23-2010) in the US. So far this game is getting very good reviews from all sorts of media and gaming outlets. Who will be purchasing, renting, playing this game? wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_Rain

I wasn't planning on it till I saw how amazing the reviews have been... I bought fallout, bioshock, and bad company strictly from reviews and I've been pretty happy with those. I'm not sold yet, but definitely intrigued.

This is a game that is all about the story; a very mature story at that. I downloaded the demo from PSN. The graphics and controls are great. The action requires you to press buttons, shake the controller, and move the analog sticks a certain way when you are prompted to do so. If you fail to do it, the outcome of the scene and story may change. The DLC for Heavy Rain has been delayed a week, FYI.
Rockstar has a similar game coming out later this year called L.A. NOIRE, but I'm betting the action is way different.

I'm definitely going to get this. But since I expect people to buy it, play through it, and then sell it, I'm going to wait until I can get a used copy for cheap.

i think L.A. Noire is going to be more of an action-based gta style game. definitely open-sandbox type play.
i played the demo of heavy rain and was impressed. still a little skeptical about how the game will turn out but ign gave it a 9+ rating, and they're as reputable as it gets.
i'm actually into saints row 2 now. if you like gta style games, it's unbelievable. controls are better than gta. the presentation alone is really solid. it's a complete ripoff, but i love both franchises.

I probably would check it out if it came out on the 360, cuz it sounds pretty cool.

Here is my very quick review of Heavy Rain:
The game starts out incredibly slow (setting a dinner table, playing with children). Once the story starts to build some steam that is where you start to identify and relate with SOME of the characters. The father (who you control for most of the time) is so stupid and his voice is irritating.
Moving characters around is challening but performing the actions is easier in my opinion. The music is mysterious yet very well done; the graphics are decent; and the pace of the game is well done also. I have a couple of ideas on who the origami killer is, but the story leads you in different directions with all of the characters you control.
Personally, I only enjoy playing as the P.I. Scott Shelby because he is the most honest and least flawed character in the game. I am about halfway through the entire game.

worth the 60? i'm about 50/50 on either buying the game this weekend or waiting until the price drops.
i hate paying 60 bones for a game, i usually reserve that for the must-haves. the gta's and modern warfares of the world.
the demo was pretty interesting though, never quite played a game like that.

I traded in some games I never play anymore and got heavy rain for 15....worth the 60? I'm not sure, but it is a pretty long game that is worth multiple play throughs for the different outcomes...I will post more info when I play more of the game tonight.

definitely. would love to hear your thoughts when you finish the game. not so much details, but replay value, and if you would still pay full price.

I finished my first play through last night and here are my thoughts:
Heavy Rain has a great story with multiple twists for all of the main characters you play. The musical score is great but the voice overs are so-so (QuanticDream took real life aspiring foreign actors, made them use accents, and digitally recreated their faces for the game). I thought this was a nice touch but I wish they had better accents because in some of the scenes they are just down right terrible; it made me laugh so hard.
You can go back and play each chapter (even after you complete the chapter the first time) to see what the potential outcomes could be. The actual gameplay is fun but you need to pay attention to the screen all the time so you know what buttons to press, how to press them, and how to move your PS3 controller.
Currently, I give Heavy Rain an 8/10. I thought the scenarios the Origami Killer puts the father in were fantastic. I was literally torn about what to do next. However, other scenarios (like dancing in a club as the journalist and rocking a baby) should have been cut scenes only. This game does have moderate replay value for the different outcomes and for the DLC content (one called The Taxidermist, released next week and one other DLC focusing on the Origami Killer which will be released soon).
If you like controlling all of your character movements and don't care about the story too much, just rent it when all the DLC is available. If you like movie style games with a great story, pay the 60 and get this game now. You can't go wrong with renting it first, then deciding to buy it if you like it.
