I have a desktop (hard wired), a laptop and an xbox 360 I want to get online. I bought a cheap router that my laptop works fine off of it. Right now if I want to get on Live with the Xbox I have to move my modem and no one can use the PC so....

My question is has anyone used one of the wireless adapters for a desktop, because I think I might hard wire my xbox and keep the router there instead of getting one of the adapters for it. I don't use my desktop for gaming really. Is this a good idea or should I just get the wireless adapter for the xbox. The one for the PC is a lot cheaper, I just don't know anyone that has used one.

I use a wireless adapter for my desktop and crank out an 80 to 90 FPS average on most of my games.

Edit - I'm using Lynksys by the way.

I hard wire my game machines. Nothing is worse then losing signal for a second in the middle of some action!

I have been using a wireless adapter for my desktop for the past year or so. I dont play games on my PC, but I haven't noticed any drop off in my browsing speed.

I have done it,you may want to upgrade on the wireless router for gaming.

Any route that is at least b/g should work, though the Wireless N routers have much better transfer rates. The big thing to consider is how much you download, b/g signals are going to be pretty slow compared to wired, but you'd have to get a router and NIC that both handle wireless N to upgrade that.

Little late here, but........

Agreed. I haven't priced it, but I tend to think that some CAT5 would be cheaper than either of the other options.

I actually find CAT6 to be cheaper... but well.. I'd hardwire the thing.. I'm not a big fan of wireless unless you really really really i mean really have to go wireless. Heck I went with one of those powerline adapters before I went wireless.

i was thinking of doing this or getting a repeater, my wireless signal has been weak for playing games.
