The Cleveland Browns were awarded former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Ramzee Robinson off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a league source.
The former Alabama defensive back was placed on waivers Tuesday, allowing the 1-10 Browns to put in a claim on him.
With Brodney Pool out with a concussion and possibly done for the season, the Browns needed some depth in the secondary.
They worked out several defensive backs Tuesday, including former New York Jets cornerback and kick returner Justin Miller, Keith Lewis as well as Michael Grant. Grant was signed to the practice squad earlier today as well as running back Jed Collins.
Robinson was drafted by the Detroit Lions with the last pick of the 2007 NFL draft, garnering the Mr. Irrelevant title.
Cut by the Lions and signed to the practice squad, he was released by the team on Sept. 6 this year.
The Eagles signed him when Ellis Hobbs was placed on injured reserve.
At Alabama, Robinson recorded 143 tackles and four interceptions in 36 career starts.

This is THE best DB out there available to us?! There has GOT to be someone sitting on a PS somewhere that is better than this guy. We should be raiding the PS of teams who are stacked at the positions we need: WR - Taking Allen was smart, Pack is loaded at WR RB - Steelers, Eagles, Giants, etc. All teams who's 3rd stringer would be OUR starter S - Colts, Pats, Vikes, ??? CB - Hell...I don't know Injuries suck...but when forced - or able - to IR a guy, we should be doing it. These are like free late round draft picks. Cut the dead weight (J Lewis), IR the injured still playing through it (Pool, Wimbley...or is he dead weight?), lose a couple vaunted STers (Ventrone?), ... and STEAL a prospect or four from a team that simply re-loads year after year. Steelers, Colts, Pats, Ravens, Cowboys, Chargers, Titans, Saints...we should be stealing PS guys from these teams left and right. Why the hell not? It sure can't hurt.

Let's look at the positives here y'all, we signed yet another non-ex-jet. And this time despite the fact that we worked out an ex-jet for the same spot (miller).

it's like mangini's own rooney rule. you have to try out at least 1 ex-jet for each open position.

Absolutely...but different.
He was injured and would not play for the Jags this year. That move was against the "agreement" I'm sure.
We would be signing guys from PS to active 53 man rosters who would probably get to actually play and maybe stick...guys who would be at least as good as the guys we cut.
Same...but different.
For instance:
The Steelers have a RB from LSU...5' 10" 219lbs...who has been on and off the PS for two years. They just can't seem to part with the guy. Say bye to JL and give this guy a shot. Can it be any worse?
There are teams out there "hiding" guys on the PS who are - or should be - very nervous right now.
Again, what do we have to lose?

The Ravens have a tight end on their PS who was a 5th Rd pick this year. Ozzie is a God, right? This is a guy taken THIS year.
He has GOT to have more upside and current-side than Royal...certainly than Estandia.
Look at teams that draft well and have an abundance of talent...and STEAL their guys.

Maybe not.
I hear what you are saying, but you can't work those guys out, you have to just sign them.
If immediate help is what you are seeking, which we are, a PS player might not be your best option.

In a "normal" situation I would agree with your conclusion...unfortunately...we are once again far from a normal situation.
Where else might we seek immediate help?
We have some guys on this team who have proven that they DON'T belong in the league.
We will end up with (3) guys on IR this week who were "starters" a week ago.
We have to pick up SOMEONE (x3) and we have a handful we should still cut.
We can go after street free agents who haven't played in awhile? We can go after UFL players who had some success...for whatever that may be worth? We cannot just wait until the draft and free agency and play with less than 53?
Or...
Steal free draft picks from teams that perenially seem to find guys in the draft who become real NFL football players? Particularly guys we may have scouted or know something about.
Raiding other teams PS of players in position of strength (strength for the raided team) seems like the best option available to us...again...can it be any worse?
The guys we cut - and put on IR - will still be availble after the season if we want to pick them back up...unfortunately.
Maybe they have already looked at it and didn't find anything they liked? Whoever "they" might be.

Peen, it's not about immediate help as much as getting someone in here to see if they can help next year.

cut and pasted from www.scout.comScout.com Player Evaluation: STRENGTHS Coverage Awareness AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT Closing Speed Size A consistent college cornerback the past three seasons, Robinson offers slight possibilities as a dime back in a zone system. Biography: Three-year starter who totaled 46/2/7 as a senior after 32/2/7 the prior year. Pos: Undersized but hard-working cornerback who is effective facing the action. Fluid pedaling in reverse, smooth transitioning to run with opponents and displays a closing burst. Neg: Struggles with large receivers or is easily blocked from the action. Has difficulty in man-on-man situations and is slow getting his head back around to locate the ball. Marginal playing speed.

He fits the scheme and "process" though....slow, can't cover man to man, has to give up big cushions because of it and stands in the way after 10yds+....and he's a hard worker of course
In a nutshell this is EM's profile to make HIS roster

Hello...he was born and they named him Ramzee, obviously not a good endorsement for the less expensive item
Django give me a break...its like 5 games left and our options are really soaped down a bit.
And you're complaining cause this guy doesn't have Pro-Bowl written all over him.
I can guarantee you one thing...NO MATTER WHO WE PICKED UP...you would be bashing the Browns for picking him up. Give it a rest.
First crack at a Waiver wire guy might be the best option there is right now. We got to add somebody for what we got out there. and DBs are not exactly the position that you see stoked away on teams Practice Squad like they are the balm.
JMHO and lets hope these guys never see the field.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
