During the Monday night game last night I marveled at how good Mike McKenzie looked after being out of football for a year and only being on the Saints for 1 week. It got me to wondering, there are several teams out there with very poor corner/nickel play right now so, don't teams have a couple of personnel officials looking out for exactly this type of guy? I heard on ESPN that he contacted the Saints and "begged" for a tryout. Anyone have any insight into this?

I recall many of the "gurus" that frequent this board saying he was old and washed up. Just like a few years ago when we needed a safety. John Lynch was there and the same posters said he was old and done. He went to the probowl for two straight years after that. Woodson is another guy that was called "finished", yet he still is pretty good.

Don't we all know the Pro Bowl isn't really a bar to show how good players are?

The Pro Bowl is a popularity contest, freaking Brett Favre made the Pro Bowl last year (but couldn't play because of injury.) Ray Lewis makes the Pro Bowl every year and everyone knows he is a shell of his former self. Johnathan Ogden and Larry Allen made the Pro Bowl numerous times while having well below average seasons towards the end of their careers.

Anyway, Mike McKenzie played well in one game on MNF. If he continues to play well then everyone can say that teams blew it.

Everyone has had one good game. McKenzie's just happened to come on MNF after sitting out half a year.

I look at Mckenzie's game as part of what I call the snowball effect.

You could pretty much plug in anyone on the Saints right now, and they'd have a good game. That team, those coaches, that system is clicking on all cyclinders, and they are playing with a great deal of confidence. Confidence is contagious and everyone plays better because of it.

Not to mention that defense can take a lot of chances because of that O. What's the worst that can happen ... you give up a TD ... no big deal ... Brees will just get it back. It's a luxury we don't have.

Make no mistake ... Mckenzie would not have much of an impact here.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Simple solution born of the truth: We cut all our 20's loose for half a year and they come back playing McKenzie ball. He was playing with hair on fire and just flat out punished folks. I know one game doesn't make a career, but it IS one game more than some of our nancy tackle types have shown. He was looking for folks to hit . . . and did! I want some of that!

I agree he wouldn't make an impact here. I was thinking more about contenders with DB problems.

I was thinking this exact same thing when I wrote that.

It looks like Hank Poteat's one good game came last year for the Jets in week 10.

He looked good becuase he had alot of good players around him all working & helping each other.

Put him on our team where he is on his own, on his own sinking island and he will get burned time & time again. Good team happen becuase they have good talent, & they all play together & help each other, not picking up for a less talented teammate, when they do that the trouble begins or a 1-15 season.
