For the gizmo and scifi geeks out there, I present to you a webpage where they talk about some of the upcoming DARPA funded robots. Don't know if anyone's seen these yet so I thought I'd post.

Talk about awesome. The wall-crawler is pretty neat, although slow and may not make for great spy type stuff. Maybe at night with nightvision? The second one, BigDog looks the best. My only beef with it is that they need to take a look locomotor activity a bit more when it comes to their running model. The gait is very wasteful when compared to that of a running horse or dog. The last one is pretty cool in that the movement (waist down) is pretty spot on, I'd like to see them make it run! Very cool stuff!

Pretty cool, all of them.

The creepy insect-looking, wall-walking thing has a lot of possibilities. If we knew Hitler was on the seventh floor in room 714 you could just have it walk up the wall, make it's way over to the window and detonate.

BigDog's legs looks like two people. One in front walking backwards and one in back walking forwards. I've seen this before and am highly impressed the way it recovers when pushed or stumbles. In the video, the way it handles slipping around on the ice is real trick. It does though look like it could never recover if it fell down. Being able to carry 340 lbs. it sure would be handy for a group of 8 or 10 soldiers. It would take a lot of weight off of them and save some energy.

The Human Legs robot is the closest thing I've seen that walks like a man.
