Talked to several of my buddies who are still serving in the military. They unanimously thought it was a bad idea for Ohio (even though they appreciated the gesture). That was enough for me. I voted "No" on Issue 1.
Same here. To a man the soldiers I talk to regularly said they deserve nothing but the respect of their countrymen.
As a vet of the 80's I wouldnt expect it and seemingly they dont now either.

I love it that this board is not an indicator of what the people in this state want. Issue 1 passed as it should have. Sorry to all those who thought it had no chance, this proves to me allot.
Again this place doesn't really hold merit with people's own opinion, but am glad Ohio voters came thru came through and glad to see this place is the minority. Keep up the good work along with the constant babble here. Argue to argue, or worse resort to name calling.
Enjoy your day.
Sorry to those who hoped the issue would fail.... Not. Good job Ohio, you got one right.

It's name calling plain and simple. The rest of your post is that babble I just mentioned. No problem with giving you a laugh, when I bother with this place you give the same laughable vibe all the time, so I guess it works it self out. Now go find someone else to call names at, I will move on until another day!!! Again thanks Ohio, you got one right...

While this is a noble gesture, didn't borrowing without actually having money get us into some sort of economic mess recently?
From my heart, yeah it's great that it passed. From a logical standpoint it makes zero sense. I figured it would pass because who wants to be known as voting "against" the people who protect our country.
I think this issue highlights one of the largest problems with the voting public today - people vote with their hearts and not their minds. Taking a 200,000,000 loan out with the state budget in shambles does not make economic sense. Again, I am very grateful to those that protect our country but the timing of this could not have been worse IMO.
And yes, I hate all of the other free handouts that are given to people who don't do squat. If I could I would gladly shift that money to military families - but that just isn't going to happen.

I voted against it for the simple reason that it made no sense from an economic standpoint . Oh well ...... now where do I get my check .

Know what? That's why it was voted on. I voted against it for 1 simple reason: the money isn't there.
I voted against it, it passed. I'll live with it. Had it failed, I wouldn't gloat. This is why things get voted on. It's a fairly simple concept, really.

I voted yes even though I dont know what it would cost us in our income tax or for homeowners.
How are the taxpayers being charged if anything?

Yet the state borrows money to keep lazy people housed, maybe force them people to get a job,
Would you rather they be working next to you? I swear, I would take a few cent paycut to not work next to some people.

Why would you ever vote for something that you didn't understand? What if it was $1,000 tax per $100,000 in home value? Yikes.

The state is going to borrow 200 million to pay for this. People voting with their emotions and/or greed are the reason for the political mess this country's in.

Politicians may have a little to do with it as well.

That's what I was getting at. Politicians prey on the emotion and greed of the voters.

Hey Jaft, maybe you should be apologizing to Ohio rather than thanking it. You bashed the hell out of Ohio when you thought you werent getting your money but now you are thanking it? Also who said it had no chance of passing? I went back a re read every post and not one person said that. People gave their opinion of why it shouldnt pass, nobody said it wouldnt pass.

Because Im not the responsible voter that you are. I just didnt mind giving more to vets. If it was that much I think they would have to put it in the bill. But why say yikes to something you just made up off the top of your head like you are saying it about someone else being irresponsible.

I was making the point that if it were that much, you wouldn't have known -- but you may have cared after the fact, right? They wouldn't put the cost in the wording of the bill...they never do...that's just how it is. I always know how much something is going to cost me before I vote on it, but I do think they should add it to the ballot language.
Just sayin'.
