Former San Diego Chargers starting strong safety Clinton Hart auditioned for the Cleveland Browns late this week, according to a source close to Hart.

Hart, 32, was cut last week and replaced by rookie Kevin Ellison.

Hart started every game in 2007 for San Diego and recorded a career-high five interceptions and 85 tackles.

Signed to a five-year contract last year, he started 14 games and didn't register an interception.

Hart had some breakdowns in coverage throughout this season before being cut.

For his career, he has posted 10 interceptions and 332 tackles with two touchdowns and two forced fumbles.

Im suprised I never heard much about this guy for being 32 and having that many starts for a good San Diego team.

Damn elite east coast biased media!

Although I love Mike Furrey's willingness and ability to play safety in a pinch, Hart is probably a better option. A one year band aid to back up Pool and Elam...especially with Adams playing alot of nickel and dime.

He should fit right in.

He is a decent play, probably about as good as Pool.

Have to wonder about that. I mean, SD is willing to go with a rookie rather than Hart. Hmmmmmm.

same here-must be b/c he didnt do anything and thus deserved to be cut. Or maybe he was thinking i'll get get out of sunny warm San Diego and go to a contender in a cold snowy town, like say, hey-CLEVELAND!

Interesting point there...this could actually be a move to better the McDonald spot moreso than to better the S position.

If Adams is going to play more corner in place of McD, we will need another safety...and I agree that Hart is a better option than Furrey as a S.

Adams/Francies to CB...McD to nickle...Gotbeat to Wal-Mart...Hart to safety.

Stepping in to less of a pressure situation. We are hungry for improvement. He has about two and a half seasons of McDuh's contact for tackles. Just play. But maybe we start an all-safety team given out corners.
I just want some deadly run support.
