I guess this would mean any sitting U.S. President at the time of 911 would not have received a NPP. I certainly hope any time it happens again, we react with unilateral military action. Or we sit around and wait for a NPP,....

Consider the source. Al Gore and Jimmy Carter won also.

I'll give you Al Gore as a head-scratcher, but, tell me... who has done more for world peace in his time on this planet than Jimmy Carter? I can't think of too many people (who weren't also Nobel Peace Prize winners).

As far as Obama is concerned, however, i agree with those who are wondering what he's accomplished to warrant such recognition. I mean, he's traveled all over the place and made a lot of speeches. However, I don't see any substantial progress that has been made in the short time he's been President. Doesn't make sense to me at all.

I find it interesting that the radical rw of the GOP has become so "ANTI AMERICAN".

Last week radical rwers cheered when the United States of America lost the Olympic bid to host the 2016 games...

This week, radical rwers can't allow themselves to be proud of the fact that an American won the Nobel Peace Prize.

I doubt that the radical rwers will admit the reason they cannot allow themselves to be proud of an American winning the Nobel Peace Prize...but most "Americans" know what is behind this radical rw "anti-Americanism".

I applaud the award. It isn't a perfect world. He won quite an honor; like him or not, it shows something beyond what we have had for some time. Many will question or criticize; this is his. Critics are legless men who teach running. Pope

What a joke! In order for him to win he would of had to have been nominated 10 days into his presidency.

It's nice to see our president win such an award, but I'd like to know what merit they made this decision on.

No, I do not believe that he did at all.

It isn't an honor at all, the Nobel is a joke.... that award began to mean less the moment Carter got it (had I paid attention earlier, it probably would have begun to decline in my eyes long, long before this), and it completely ceased to be credible in my eyes when Al Gore was awarded his.

It used to mean something a long, long time ago, but it is now corrupted by politics, bribes and cliques.

so you are possibly telling me if Mother Theresa and Obama were running for the award you would pick Obama based on what he could do instead of what she has done?

Agreed...

The award pretty much jump the shark when Yasser Arafat got one in '94.

Honestly the biggest joke was when Kissinger got one in 73.

There are a many more deserving candidates out there than Obama....but at the end of the day, it's an award, they give it to whoever they want.....for whatever reason they want....and it doesn't really change anything about the world today.

Did anyone listen to Glenn Beck on the Radio this morning.. I'll have to admit, it was funny.. He awarded himself an academy award for a documentary...... that he hasn't filmed yet

My sources say the President is also a good bet to win the Heisman Trophy, the Stanley Cup, a Pulitzer Prize, and the Miss America Pageant.

I'm just sayin'.

What any president would have done, which means he isn't any more or less deserving than any president.

What a joke.

I turned on Limbaugh at lunch. I wanted to hear him meltdown. I wasn't disappointed. He did say two things I agree with.

1. This was done to manipulate Afghan policy (troop surges) and Iraq.
2. Bill Clinton has to be suicidal right now (Carter, Gore and Obama having one).

Exactly,....even if those are failed and miserable policies, the NPP Commmittee has NO business throwing around awards to influence worldwide political decisions. If they come and bomb out Chicago like they did New York, do we think The President would decide against unilateral military action, in anticipation of tarnishing his shot at a NPP ?

It's not just right wingers, it's everyone who notices this as a laughable joke.

The guy was nominated 10 days into his presidency for a Nobel Peace Prize for doing...?

Let's be honest here, he got this award because he appears to be the antithesis of George W.

I can admit it. BECAUSE HE DID NOTHING TO EARN IT. But then giving things to people who haven't earned them is what this country is about so I see why you are so elated.

Please, since you are so proud of him, tell me what he did to earn it... Let me help you out a little. This is the definition of what the award is supposed to be about.. now keeping in mind that he was nominated for this award 10 days into his presidency, tell me what he did..

Quote:

According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize should be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."

Apparently Americans weren't the only voters he duped into believing his empty promises and visions of "change".

By the way mac ... where were you on the thread that showed Obama lied, not once, but TWICE in a speech about people's situations regarding health coverage? I mean sure, his advisers may have gave him faulty info and he's an American and all ... but he LIED!! I thought that was completely inexcusable offense for you?

Its likely about perception.

Did he deserve the award, no. But the reality is that outside of the US (or at least in parts of South America and Europe where I've visited the last few year), Bush was viewed as a war monger. Obama isn’t. Not a good reason to give him the award, but I'd bet it had an influence on it.

If it was that simple, the president of Switzerland would win every year. The anti-Bush sentiments in this award is evident, the only thing Obama did to "deserve" this award is not be George Bush...

American presidents always seem to get a token nomination. Clinton received them regularly as did Bush (his first came when he was only in office for eleven days).

As for winning it...I can't comprehend how a guy presiding over two wars can be given a peace prize.

If any American should have won it, it should have been Bill Clinton. And I can't really say he should've won it, either.

I'd like to know what he did to earn these. He was in office for 10 days when nominated. I recall liberals saying how 4,5,6 months was not enough time for him to do anything. Now all of sudden 10 days is?
