GO BROWNS!! If you're a real fan, gut-wrenching defeat is not something you discard a team for -- it's something that fuels your lunatic devotion.

You guys got it all wrong. 1.) Derrick Anderson. He has a big arm. 2.) Brady Quinn. What a smart, pretty-looking game manager type with no accuracy. 3.) Bartel. He was better than Ratliff who got his roster spot for being a Jet only... 4.) Ehh, the rest just are too stable and can actually move a professional football teams offense. They can't be better than what we have. impossible. We're terrible at QB.

I wouldn't because it's a stupid exercise whose only purpose is to mock our QBs...

I'm going to try to turn this thread into an intelligent debate about football, and not just a bash our QBs thread.
Assuming that our QBs leave a lot to be desired, I'm going to stick with analyzing the other three QBs in our division.
Big Ben
I have no idea how he's going to last through the season. He holds on to the ball so long that he gets crushed a lot. But, the guy just plain performs (which I can't stand). His pump fakes are great and he is tough to bring down. He just extends plays, and his WRs are good enough to work with him when he gets outside the pocket. He's the kind of QB that when he's in the game for your team, you feel like he's going to make a big play for you. Yeah, he might take a few sacks, but I think his pros greatly outweigh his cons.
Carson Palmer
I think Palmer is the absolute prototype for a QB. The guy has great mechanics, a great arm, and is a smart player. I think his play has regressed a bit these past couple years, but he's had to battle injuries and the fact that he plays for Cincinnati. But, when he turns it on like he did this past game against Pittsburgh, he's downright tough. He's a true no. 1 QB.
Flacco
It's tough for me to really put him with the other 2 for no other reason than that he hasn't been around long enough. What I have seen is pretty impressive. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes and he has good size and a good arm. It must be nice to know that you have that defense backing you up. I think they'd be even more dangerous if he had a true no. 1 WR to throw to. The guys they have are good, but imagine him with a guy like Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald, or Boldin, or even a BE who can stretch defenses.
Overall, I think I'd take Palmer, Big Ben, Flacco in that order. But, that's a really tight race. Any given Sunday, that order could shift.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

thank you Brownsfan79, that was the prupose of this thread. I wanted to have an intelligent conversation about where other fans would rate Flacco. And since there are 2 other good QBs in this division, I thought why not make this into an AFC North QB discussion that has nothing to do with the Browns current situation. Concisdering that 2 of the teams have 2 of the top defenses year in and year out, now they both have competent QBs. Not only do the Browns have to compete at the QB position, they need to be looking at playmakers on defense. Not just smart guys that know the defense. I wish Mangini would have went with Maulega instead of a WR that isnt even active on gameday.
But after watching Flacco this season and last, I am very impressed. The guy has good touch on deep passes and can throw them off his back foot. Unlike DA, he has the big arm but is very accurate on the short passes. I think the Steelers could have won the SB last year with Flacco. I also think they could have won with Palmer because I think Palmer is better. One good thing Ben can do is pull a play out of his butt when his sorry o-line makes him leave the pocket. Alot of Bens big plays happen when the play breaks down. He often hits receivers when they have time to run around. Ben can throw OVER the defense, when the play breaks down. Defenders have to keep his targets in front of them, the Browns DBs have let them get by them many times. Bens size also helps him take the punishment he receives and lets him get rid of the ball when most QBs would take the sack. He got 2 SBs but I think Palmer and Flacco could do better on that team. If anyone saw the int. that Ben threw against Cincy last game, Flacco dont make mistakes like that. I cant believe the poise Flacco has coming from a small school like Delaware to the NFL. He wasnt even going to be the starter for week 1 last year but Troy Smith was out with the flu.

No it isnt. If you have ever discussed football with me, you would know that I dont mock the team, I have never booed a player when attending a game, and instead of getting into a debate of who should start, Im going to root for whoever is in there and hope they win. I might not like the coaches decisions with playcalling, stratagies, and drafts but I dont mock. Its an exercise where I want to see where other Browns fans that I like to discuss football with rate Flacco against Palmer and Ben. I guess I would like to know if any of our fans seriosly think that our division rivals have better backups then the Browns 2 starters that at one time I thought we were in good position with 2 capable QBs. I still think the very uncreative or poor playcalling is making the Browns QBs look worse. Also Manginis approach to the QB position isnt much differant then Crennels. Leaving the whole team guessing does not work. How can he QBs work with the targets when nobody knows who is starting.

Stupid question. Anyone who knows me already knows that awnser. I couldnt even find a Browns fan to go with me to the freezing cold Cincy game with our 4th starting QB that year. I was offering three other tickets on here for half off and didnt have any takers.
Its actually a question to take some minds of our situation. There are 3 very competent QBs in our division and people that can discuss football outside of talking Browns, I would like to know how they would rank them. I think its a hard question to awnser because all 3 could be up for the Pro Bowl any given year.
The Browns QB situation isnt the teams only problem, so dont be mad at me if Im intersted in how people rank the other QBs. The owner and the coaches unwillingness to draft playmakers. Who knows what Clark was looking at. Butch looked directly at size and speed, and now Mangini is looking at IQ.

Maybe the better way to start this thread would have been to title it "How would you rank the OTHER AFC North QBs"
