My niece, Alexa Rand, a volleyball player from Mentor High, playing for Clemson University is ranked 3rd in the nation in blocks per set and 51st in the nation in hitting percentage as of Sept. 20th. Oh, and Alexa is a freshman. She works her tail off to improve every day and is a great sense of pride to her family, her school, and her teammates. Alexa is someone to keep an eye on as the ACC season begins in earnest this weekend. Excuse a very proud uncle for gloating. Link

x 2... That's what uncles (and aunts and grandparents, etc) are for, aren't they?

Awsome! Keeps us informed as the season goes on. If shes doing this good as a freshman, maybe the Olympics are on the horizon!!!!!
I love watching my daughter and nephews play sports and talk about it all the time. It makes you realize whats important and not care so much about the outcome of Pro Sports and their inflated paychecks.

UPDATE: Week ending 9/27/09
Alexa is ranked 4th in the nation in blocks, percentage points out of third. She also moved to #17 in the country in hitting percentage, up from 51st last week. The Tigers had a 1-1 weekend. They are starting 3 freshmen and this bodes really well for their future.
Go Clemson!!

Update for the week ending 10/4/09: Alexa is #11 in blocks/game and #15 in hitting percentage nationally. The Tigers beat a tough Miami Hurricanes team in 5 sets and lost to 17th ranked Florida State also in 5 sets. Both matches were on the road. Alexa remains #1 in blocks/game and #3 in hitting percentage in the ACC. The team is home this weekend vs Maryland and Boston College.

Thanks dawg531. Only top 20 teams ever make it onto TV and Clemson is not at that level yet. They have a great, young core of freshmen and need a few key recruits next year to join the elite.
I watch animated versions of the matches on Gametracker through www.theacc.com.
