So I'm trying to have a football conversation with the wife and we're talking about RB. She points out several white guys and asks me if they're JL. After chuckling, it got me thinking "Are there ANY white RB's in the NFL anymore?"
I think the last might have been Alstott but he's retired. Does anyone know of one -anywhere on an NFL depth chart?
I'm hoping this doesn't become a "race thread", I'm just wondering....

Brian Leonard's on the Bengals and Jacob Hester is on the Chargers. Both are FB/RB hybrids similar to Alstott.

I get the depth of your question, gift horse. Another question: are there any white corners these days? No. Not many white safteties either. I'll let the rest of you debate why.

I think white players at these positions are being pushed into other positions early on, because of the perception that they are incapable of playing said positions.
The same thing was going on with black players who wanted to be QB's We are now seeing a change to that trend. Maybe we will see the same change with white players playing RB, CB, S. Who knows.

Maybe mandatory workouts for white players before you sign the player you really want? Oh wait I forgot it only works the other way..

What about the kid who came out of West Virginia a couple years ago? I think he might be with the Bears,or is he being used purely as a FB?

How could it not become a race thread? Recognizing that blacks are better at certain physical skills ... it is what it is. I don't have to know why to know its true. And no, that doesn't presume that blacks are necessarily deficient in other skills. It doesn't preclude it either. Created equal doesn't mean identical.

Ok that obviously not who I was thinking of. The guy i am thinking of was on West Virginia the year that Rick Rodrigues abandoned them before the bowl game. Big ole white dude from West Virginia, I think he had a mohawk.

Which we aren't. I mean no offense to no one, but I can remember a study that came out years ago, that said that on average - on average - whites scored slightly higher on IQ tests than blacks...and Asians scored on average higher than whites.
Obviously a higher IQ doesn't necessarily equare to common sense, which in most ways is more valuable...
Not to get Jimmy the Greek on anyone, but the positions in football requiring speed are dominated by blacks... is it because they're just naturally faster on average??? Is it because more black youth play football than do white youth, which I doubt???

Youth football is more common in neighborhoods of wealth, so in that sense, there's skepticism...
However you will frequently find player bios of kids who list Compton as a hometown but played H.S. ball at St. Vatican Prep Academy.
They reel in the most athletically gifted poor (i.e.: black) kids and offer them a schoalrships. It they pan out, they get a financial 'sponsor' family, generally almuni...
Historically, the lower classes have had athletic advantages over the upper classes. A lot of the time when we say 'black' of 'white' we're really talking about class distinction.
Social status beats race nine times out of ten.

One thing I have noticed that is interesting, regarding race and the NFL, is it always seems there are tons of white offensive linemen, and the defensive linemen are usually black. anyone notice this?

I've noticed recently that an overwhelming number of running backs and cornerbacks in the NFL are men... we need an investigation to find out why.
