I'm 23 years of age and I just realized something today... I miss playing high school football! It kept me in shape, and it allowed me to compete in athletic competition. While I was thinking about this, I wondered to myself... "How do adults still feed their drive to compete?" So my question is, what do you do to keep your competitive drive flowing? I know a lot of people do triathlons and marathons, but that doesn't seem like much fun to me. Plus I can only beat people at lawn jarts so many times before I get bored. Lol.

Actually ..... in life ... many things become "competitions".

Now if you're talking about recreational competition .... then pool ...... cards ...... darts (which I suck at right now ... but am just learning) ...... and such. (not to mention the occasional bar video trivia game)

Then there is the occasional (or more often than occasional) debate.

Here in Atlanta they have kickball leagues for adults. Complete with festive beverages. It is all the rage, and I know they have it in other cities as well.

But I stumble on that too. Wish there was flag football or something for adults here. Seems like most recreational sports cater to kids and not adults.

Although lots of my friends play tennis. There are tennis organizations for adults. Golf? Bowling ? -grasps at straws-

I ski for the physical and mental challenge. It makes you have to think fast and react quickly to changing terrain and snow conditions. Skiing in glades (trees) is a awesome rush. I'm lucky enough to have a friend that skiis at the same level as me. We compete against each other in the lines we chose and the willingness to drop in first.
The other way I compete is fishing. It's me verse the fish first. Then me verse my buddies.

I think you have to look for other outlets as you get older. Softball leagues, dart leagues, bowling, golf, running...

Depending on what you do for a living, you may find a workplace softball team or maybe a flag football team. Other than that, Pool leagues at the DAV or American Legion and fishing in the tournaments down here.

I destroy all who watch Jeopardy with me, weeknights. Other than that I might play pool, darts, cornhole, or beer pong every once in a blue moon.

Poker for me . I love the challenge and the brain exercise that goes along with it ( not to mention it has panned out to be a nice little side job $$ ) . I am starting to dabble in golf but at 40 I am in no danger of ever becoming good enough to wager my skills against someone else .

Fishing tournaments, the drive is still there to win but as I've gotten older the time to prepair or practice is limited, thats were experiance kicks in, I use to prefish a lake for hours, finding where the fish were staged at what they were bitting on ect. but with kids, kids games, work, keeping up a house time is limited, but the drive to win is still there. Some days the must win attitude is replaced with, the appriciation of just being able to get out & still do what I love to do.

Deer Bow Hunting, is another not so much as a compatition against others but a compatition against the deer, who seems to win most of the time. It's still fun but over the years the need to come home with something has changed to apprication of just getting out. The drive to get out & hunt is still there but over the years just getting out & spending a day in the woods with my son & daughters or friends means more to me than a big buck....kinda....

Hmmm. Man, I wish I wasn't too busy (and lazy when not busy) to meet up w/ you to watch some time.

Do you watch every day? The reason I ask is because the easiest, I mean EASIEST final jeopardy question in the history of the show was on Monday or Tuesday. The category was American History.

For me now it's golf. I'm not really good or bad at it. Middle of the road. We have a par three course right up the road which kind of makes it a putt-putt for golfers. Sometimes we say that you can only use these 3 clubs and the next time it's three different clubs. We change it up for the challenge.

Other than that, I would say a pool league. You get to go to some places that you normally wouldn't. Meet some people that you like and some that you just want to totally crush...those are the ones that keep the juices flowing. No greater feeling than beating "Billy Bad Ass" in his home pool hall or bar.
