The wife and most of her family follow this "reality show family" closer than they follow each other. It makes me sick.
The latest controversy is a ratings grab..

No. I don't understand why all the girls are so obsessed with the show. I did a little reading on it and it turns out the mom is a controlling nutcase to her husband, and the husband is largely whipped.
Not my kind of show.

My daughter is addicted to this show, and for the life of me I can't understand why. So they have 8 kids...and they cry and scream and whine the entire show. Good stuff.

My wife likes to watch it, she's not an addict but does enjoy it.
The only "reality" show I can watch at all is the one with Gene Simmons & his family. I didn't watch Ozzy Osbourne's because he's an ass, at least Simmons is coherent and his kids seem to have it together.

I love Pitchmen...my friends tell me I do a great Billy Mays impression.
Intervention is another good reality show. I like the ones that are somewhat educational and aren't just conflictfests.

That would explain it.
Never seen it, never even heard of it until a couple of weeks ago when I read something about them cheating on each other and I thought "who are these people?".

I like the reality TV show idea I heard from a comic strip a long time ago .... They need to have a reality tv show where they put a dozen producers in a house together, and have them fight it to see who can outlast the rest of them, and come up with the next idea for a new reality tv show.

A friend of mine talked me into watching "Intervention".... I found it too depressing to watch. Too much despair. I forgot about that cooking show Hell's KItchen is it??...the one with the head chef who's always swearing at the contestants & belittling them. He's funny. I can watch that.

I watched it with my wife at first but quit when they shot to stardom over night and it quickly felt like celebrities being filmed instead of "real" people. Instead of being in the nosebleeds at a ball game, sitting w/ Joe Schmoes, they were sitting w/ the owner w/ all the kids getting jerseys. And then there's the trips to Oprah or the expensive vacations that no normal parents of 8 would ever be able to go on w/out all the help they obviously have right off camera. I quit watching LONG before this newest brew-ha-ha w/ the marital problems. At least these rich people can now afford good therapy for 8 kids.
And I have never been able to stand Kate. Annoying nag to the highest degree.

Same here. Heard of it before the brewhaha, but that's because my friends 7 year old son is uber into that show. He's obsessed. That told me enough about the show to know that I don't need to watch it.

They make 50 Grand an episode w/ 40 episodes in this new season alone. This on top of Kate's books that she writes when she's not "busy" taking care of all those kids.

I love intervention not for the drama but when I see what trainwrecks these people are I realize just how great my life really is . It baffles me how these dregs try and rationalize what/why they do .

There is a thought . Not that I lack ALL compasion but I just wonder how much of that is for real .The disturbing thing is what it says about me that I take a small amount of joy watching other peoples misery and misfortunes .

Thats not just you, that is a large majority of people. That is the train wreck antectdote. People take pleasure in others pain because in a way it makes them feel better about themselves. Evn if you are a merciful person and you feel pity for those people, it still is a subconcious way of your mind makeing yourself feel better.

I must be in the minority then, cuz that show was just all blackness... at least the episode I watched. No thanks to that.
This isn't me playing an ostrich, it's just there's more than enough "reality" in real life when it comes to the despair of addiction.

I have watched bits and pieces of the show in flipping channels and I stopped just to see what the hype is about. I have probably watched 10 minutes total. The guy seems like a pretty good guy but the woman is a total nut case. I think the type of personality she has though makes her a good match for him. If she was married to someone like me it would be WWIII everyday. One of us would end up dead,or in jail.
I dont watch the show besides that, but it irks me the type of DIVA this bitch has become.I mean she walks around now like she is some kind of starlet, and all she really is is some broad who popped 8 kids and now is exploting that for cash. I have to say though I cant blame them for taking the cash if it is available to them but it is ridiculous to walk around like you actually did something.

The only reality show I watch is the Office, although I do like to catch House Hunters on HGTV for no other reason than I get a kick out of a 500 sq. ft. apartment in Paris going for a half million dollars or more.

You're not the only one. I watched one episode of some gal addicted to something and ruining her pitiful life even more than she had. That's not enjoyable to watch, it's just depressing.
As far as the morons with the 8 kids, I heard about it for the first time on the radio yesterday where they played some audio clip of an over-bearing woman all over some pathetic schmuck about dressing their kids properly. While I'm sure it's insightfully more entertaining than Intervention could ever be, watching some emasculated guy is not entertainment either.

The newest bestest part of this whole story...
Is that she is now telling the company that did her fertility treatments, that led to the sextuplets, that they have to give her free medical stuff, BECAUSE they're treatments lead to a multiple pregnancy...
Isn't that like double dipping?

ROFL... MY wife and I have gotten into House Hunters lately. It is a trip what these people are paying for. Now when my wife says she thinks our house is too big, I remind her we didn't pay 500k and it's a lot more than 800sqft.
Even more so, I wonder how many episodes are a couple years old based on some of the prices they still have on the show. This weekend, a family of 4 wanted to upgrade from their 2300sqft house to something with more room. They bought their house for 170k some years ago.
They ended up with a 2200sqft house (I thought they said they needed more room) for like 420k, and then spend 80k adding a pool, painting, new kitchen. She's works from home and he was in construction. Wanna bet they are facing foreclosure?
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

I'm almost sorry to admit it, but I tried to watch this show to see what the big deal was... I'm afraid that after watching part of one episode, I was thinking,, this is stupid and I switched to another channel..
I had heard on the Today program that Kate was caught having an affair with her bodyguard and that Jon was having an affair with some 23 year old.. That's about all I know and I'm not even sure it's accurate...

We saw one last night where this guy was trying to redo his basement to turn into a rental property. Talk about in over your head, the guy thought just he and his father-in-law would be able to do it. They were just digging and digging and eventually just hired the pros to do it. There was a hole in the basement with raw sewage collecting in it, they had one of those really old boilers and water heaters.
The guy was totally amazed at how much work went into making the place look good.
For me, it would have been worth the $40,000 to hire someone right off the bat to do it right.
I'm always amazed at people that think they can flip things or redo things that are so obviously out of their league.
Yeah, you want to redo a room or something, that's one thing. But the people who buy a rundown house, want to add on a whole room to the back of the house, want to redo the kitchen and bathroom, and want to do it on a budge of like $25,000 or so really make me laugh.
"I am so amazed that I went over budget by $75,000!"

"The Office" format is mockumentary, which I feel is the best vehicle for comedy. It started, of course, with "Spinal Tap" and things like that, but it's role has been expanded with the advent and popularity of reality TV...if reality TV is good for anything, it's that.

Just a general reply .......
I just ditched my cable. There was so little worth watching on TV ...... and the commercials I saw for this show did nothing to inspire a change in that attitude. I didn't replace the cable with anything. I also ditched my cable internet and phone for DSL and standard phone service. Instead of paying almost $150 per month, I now pay about $50. (and my internet speed is faster on DSL .. despite what TWC's ads say)
I can watch a bunch of other shows online at hulu .... and others at the show's network website ..... and frankly I don't miss much of the rest.
I figure that I have 1 or 2 days/week when I would watch anything on TV ...... and I can go rent a couple of DVDs for a few bucks ...... and pocket the other $80 or so net savings.

Agreed.
Is Mythbusters a reality TV show?
Outside of sports and the Discovery, History and SciFi channels I barely watch TV. I like The Office but that's really about it.
