Former Dallas Cowboys safety Roy Williams has found a new NFL home in Cincinnati, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, striking a deal with the AFC North team months after being cut by the Cowboys at his request.
The move reunites Williams with former Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, the Bengals’ defensive boss.
The former Pro Bowl defensive back agreed to a short-term, incentive laden contract, Williams’ agent told Bengals.com, declining to give out specific details.
“There were a couple of teams offering considerable more money, but Roy liked the fit in Cincinnati,” said Jordan Woy, Williams’ agent. ”It’s a good fit for both sides really. Roy obviously has a great relationship with Mike Zimmer and he’s excelled in that defense and the Bengals are happy to get a guy like that for their defense.”
Drafted eighth overall out of the University of Oklahoma in 2002, Williams was limited to two games last season due to a fractured forearm and recorded six tackles.
The 28-year-old California native has registered 506 career tackles and 19 interceptions in seven NFL seasons.
