The Cleveland Browns announced today that the club has signed free agent running back Noah Herron.
The 26-year-old Herron was originally a seventh-round draft choice of Pittsburgh in 2005. Since that time he has played with Pittsburgh (2005), Green Bay (2005-07) and Tampa Bay (2008).
In 23 career games, the 5-11, 225-pounder has rushed for 273 yards and three touchdowns on 85 carries and caught 29 passes for 211 yards and a pair of scores. He had his best season in 2006 when he played in all 16 games with the Packers and rushed for 150 yards and a touchdown on 37 attempts, and tallied 29 receptions for 211 yards and two touchdowns. He spent all of 2007 on Green Bay's injured reserve list with a knee injuryand was inactive for all four games that he spent on the Buccaneers' 53-man roster last year.
Herron was a four-year letterman at Northwestern (2001-04) where he rushed for 2,524 yards and 26 touchdowns on 462 carries and finished his career as the school's fifth all-time leading rusher. He also amassed 72 receptions for 781 yards and two touchdowns. He was a consensus All-Big 10 selection as a senior in 2004 when he ran for 1,381 yards and 14 touchdowns on 274 attempts and caught 36 passes for 351 yards and a score.
I googled his name and not much came up on this guy, but i like what i see so far..... From Big ten school, i like. And hes not some small dude, hes got some size on him. Good pick up, hope he can stay healthy.

This must be Wright's replacement.

Huh... we let one Northwestern back go (Wright) and picked up another one. I wonder what the odds of that happening in the NFL universe were??

The thing with the NFL is running backs come out of nowhere.
This guy could all the sudden rush for 1,200 yards. Then go back to being a nobody. I know nothing about what any running back can do in the NFL.

Wright's replacement...at least going into camp.
And probably smart player like Wright - note they came from the same School and one noted for their brains not football.

lots more hitting in a Mangini camp so you need more running backs to take the pounding.

For those of you wondering why we picked Herron up...
From his wikipedia page
New York Jets Herron was signed to a future contract by the New York Jets on January 7, 2009. He was released on February 26, 2009.

We are becoming the Cleveland JETS, I'm not really enthused with the direction that Kokonuts and Mangoo are heading in. Wright was one of our best spec. teams players.

Herron red-shirted in 2000 and he appeared in the first eight games in 2001before a stress fracture in his foot forced him to miss the remainder of the season. Herron saw significant playing time backing up Jason Wright in 2002 and 2003. He took over as the Wildcats' starter in 2004, when he rushed for 1,381 yards and 14 TD's on 274 carries and 351 receiving yards and one TD on 36 catches. Herron's versatility is his biggest asset. He is powerful runner between the tackles, who catches the ball well and is an adequate blocker in the passing game. The problem is that he lacks the speed and explosiveness to project as a consistent contributor in the NFL. He lacks the burst to turn the corner as a runner,, he isn't much of a threat after the catch as a receiver and he isn't physical enough as a blocker....

Awesome....we got Jason Wright's backup....

No, because we released a guy then picked up the guy who was his backup in college. Because he was a Jet.........

That's right. I forgot that Herron was the guy who did that.
Man. This off-season is one of my favorites. First we sign a guy named Pork Chop. Now we sign the guy who beats down an intruder with a bedpost. Awesome.

I watched him play a few times at GB. What i remember was that he looked quick abd hit the hole hard and was thinking he reminded me of Ahman Green and thought because of that he might stick.
I think the injury bug has hindered any process he might have had.
Good signing!!!!!

Never fear Browns fans, there are 2 potential replacements for Wright:
Noah Herron
Jesse Chatman
I predicted this signing in the other thread as Wright's replacement....but I was totally joking and making light the Cleveland Jet thing.

Look, his posts are pretty negative. But that hardly makes them worthless.
And truth be told, I doubt even Mangini thinks he's bringing in anything other than guys to compete for what is essentially 3rd string, maybe 2nd. So his opinions are not really that far fetched. Just sometimes poorly worded.

Just an FYI...we didn't release Wright...his contract was up and he went into the FA market. According to his agent (McCarthy or something like that) we had made an offer to sign Wright. He chose Zona - don't know if it was a bigger offer???

My guess is that he probably went to AZ because he thought he might see the field more often. Plus, given what has gone on so far I'm guessing any offer we made was on the low side.

I think I read, He played in 23 games with 3 touchdowns. That is 20 games without touchdowns. I think it is safe to say he is no Adrian Peterson.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
