I was going to put in a pool table, but the room measures out too short by a foot or so lengthwise. So I scrapped that idea.
When people come over they seem to gather up in our kitchen. I want them out of the kitchen and into a room to do things. A pool table would have been great because most people play pool and it's fun.
What should I do now to hold peoples interest when they come over? I was thinking a Playstation 3 with wireless remotes and a cool tv. Nice sound system. But unlike pool, people would have to stand around and watch others play. Pool takes a few seconds until the next person is up and things roll along smoothly. No boredom.
Ping pong table that could double as a beer pong table maybe? I have no idea. What do you people think?
How in the world can you fix something... If you don't know how it's supposed to work?

A friend of mine got some vintage video games like Galaga, Pacman etc,, put them in his game room,, for some dumb reason, people love them... go figure.
he also found slot machines and put some of those in..
Of course, there is your standard poker table as well.

foosball is a good choice
But don't get a bad table. Get a good one. Get an overhead light for it if you can too.
Now if you have kids, they might not get it. But your buddies and you will if you play a little bit.
A lot of it matters how old you are. But I would say if you're 30 or younger, are looking to drink with your buddies, and play a game. Foosball it is. As you get better you realize it gets competitive.
I really began playing when I spent about 4 months in Prague. My buddies and I played there (where everyone plays) and we would get smoked. I mean, I got beaten by two sixteen year old girls. But we played pretty much everyday till we got better.
I went back to college, and played usually everyday and I've gotten pretty good. I play defense usually, have a really good right wrist, and whack it up the walls. I rarely lose wherever I go. It's a true skill, something you can work to get good at, there's a lot more to foosball than people realize.
Pool is also a skill of mine as well, I own a table. The advantage to pool is that you can play by yourself, or with one or two other people. Foosball one on one is a different game, much harder for me (too many levers, too much setting up defense before going on offense for me). Some people like it, but I would say that i'd rather play pool any day of the week.
With four guys, foosball is the best game ever created though, period.

I have always wanted a pool table. But, like you, I don't have room.
I have a PS3 with a nice tv, but a game room deserves a little more.
- I am in the same predicament as you, here is what I'm thinking:
- A nice table hockey game. - The kind with a bubble covering it, and that includes electronic scoring. - They cost around 700-900.
- A real arcade machinge. - A classic, like Mortal Kombat II, or Pacman, or Donkey Kong.
- Bumper pool
- Let me know what you decide.

How long is your room? If it's too small for a regulation sized pool table, it will be too small for a ping pong table, too. They are very similar in size. Would a smaller, bar sized, pool table work?
A bristle dart board is a must in my game room. You need at least a 10' room, though.
I would want a shuffleboard table, but those seem to start around 9' in length, too.

I don't know if your a card guy,but you can get a gaming table for poker, etc.
You need a TV in there, A video gaming system is good. PS3 or a Wii if you want people up and moving.
There's other options like air hockey, foosball as someone mentioned.

It's 13-6 X 13. Would be 16X13 if there wasn't these closets taking up about 2/3 of the one wall. I put some tape on the floor to represent a 7 ft. table. This is close. I have plenty room on the sides, on the ends I have about 40 inches from end of table to the wall.
I can always open up the closet doors for that end of the table, but then other side I don't know if I would have enough room even with a short cue. I'm also not sure I want to go down to a seven foot table.

I do have a 9 ft. table. I think I am going to use it, just put it at an angle. I layed down some tape again and it will work for the most part. The only bad shots are in the direct corners of the table. I do't recall shooting shots from that angle very much at all. If it comes up, I'll have to use a short cue.
Not the look I was going for, but if it works, it works. Still thinking about that PS3 also. I seen the BestBuy ad earlier. Buy it and you get a 50.00 gift card and your choice of either the Aerosmith or Legends of Rock Guitar Hero game. Not just the disc but with the guitar also. That's a pretty good deal.
