I used to be a lightweight "deadhead" back in the day. Love the music and even went so far as to get a dead skull tattoo on my right arm that I loved. Unfortunately the year I was going to see my first show at blossom Jerry died Well, the remaining members are doing a 19 city tour,,their first since 2004!

LOS ANGELES – It looks like the old Dead are gettin' on.

Surviving members of the Grateful Dead say they'll regroup for a 19-city tour, their first since 2004, beginning April 12 in Greensboro, N.C.

The group, which now just calls itself The Dead, announced its plans Thursday.

Original band members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann have toured sporadically since the 1995 death of guitarist Jerry Garcia, but struggled to get along personally and artistically. They told Rolling Stone in November that they've worked out their differences, aided by a successful October benefit concert in Pennsylvania for then-presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Warren Haynes joins the Dead on lead guitar, and Jeff Chimenti will play keyboards.

As a veteran of many Grateful Dead shows I have to say without Jerry it won't be the same. The original lineup of The Other Ones was really tight and captured the energy of the GD well but Kimock was no Jerry, and neither is Warren. I LOVE Warren... but he is no more Jerry than he was Duane Allman. It's a cover band. And last I heard Phil sing... well I'll spend less money and catch a Darkstar Orchestra show. At least when I close my eyes at a DSO show it sounds like Jerry's singing.

I saw The Dead once...and I saw Jerry Garcia's band once.
I really liked, and miss, Jerry Garcia. He plays(ed) beautifully melodic, flowing leads.

My favorite album is Terrapin Station.

Happy New Year, everybody!! Hope and change are in the air! So what better way to kick off 2009 than to confirm what’s been buzzing in the rumor mill for some time: The Dead will be touring for the first time in more than four years, with nearly twenty shows spread across a month from mid-April through mid-May! Details will be announced here soon, so keep your eyes on dead.net!

The lineup for this edition of The Dead will be the same one that rocked the house at Penn State last fall at the Obama benefit: The Core Four of Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, joined by guitar monster Warren Haynes and RatDog keyboard ace Jeff Chimenti (both veterans of the 2004 Dead "Wave That Flag" tour). The mood of the band for this Spring Fling is way up, so it’s sure to be a great tour!

Dead.net will be your official hub for ALL news about the tour, including dates and ticket info... and perhaps even a few surprises along the way!

So gas up the Tourmobile, get out that really wild tie-dye--you know, the one with the red spiral melting into the purple and green that’s in a heap of clothes in the back of your closet--and start getting into Show Shape!

You know it’s gonna get stranger, so let’s get on with the show...

Well if you pay to see DSO, as I love to do whenever they are in town, you don't mind cover bands.

And how many Dead songs did Phil actually sing on? It wasn't that many was it?

C'mon, if you like the Grateful Dead and Warren Haynes, you KNOW a show on this tour is worth your money!

Jerry and PIgpen are dead, so they pretty much are nothing. No lead guitar, and the lead singer on most theri songs is pushin daisies.

my thoughts excatly. if your a fan how could you NOT go. ok warren is no jerry, but i catch warren when ever i can. i enjoy checking out DSO whenever i can. its cheaper, so it seems i see everyone from highschool at those shows with thier kids. good times. they do a free show in springfield every other year or so.
closest show the dead are doing is in chicago. that venue has the worst acoustics ever. ill wait for the summer tour. get my few nights at deer creek.
