I know alot of you get tired off my posting about my mountianeers, but, what can I say.....I am proud of my college, it's where I meet my wife, and spent 6 of the best years of my life .

8:00 PM, ESPN 2

Anyway, we are looking at the #2 (App. State) team in the nation vs. the #3 (Wofford) team. At stake is 1st place in the southern conference, which is like the SEC in I-AA (or whatever it's called now). Both are high scoring teams with just decent defenses so it should be a fun game to watch.

heres a small article on it:

Quote:

As soon as you win one showdown, there's another one looming.

That's life in the Southern Conference, where a week after Wofford pummeled an FCS Top 10 team in Elon, it faces another one in No. 2 Appalachian State.

And on national TV (ESPN2) on Halloween night, no less.

The fifth-ranked Terriers and three-time defending national champion Mountaineers meet at 8 p.m. Friday in Boone, N.C., where it snowed Tuesday.

"Looks like a white Christmas right now," App State coach Jerry Moore said.

The winner of this week's showdown will enjoy an early Christmas present and a nice Halloween treat bag all rolled into one. With Wofford and App State both at 4-0 in the SoCon, the winner is the likely 2008 SoCon champ and owner of an automatic bid to the FCS playoffs.

Last year, the Terriers took advantage of a beat-up Armanti Edwards to whip App State, 42-31, just three weeks after the Mountaineers' epic upset of Michigan. Wofford and App State ended up sharing the SoCon title, but the Terriers' earned the league's automatic bid.

This season, App State's quarterback is healthy and playing well — Edwards ran for a touchdown and passed for two more in last week's 26-14 win over Furman — and the game is in Boone, where it's sure to be frigid and frightening Friday night.

But Wofford's 55-20 destruction of then seventh-ranked Elon last week showed that Mike Ayers' Terriers have not lost a step, despite the loss of 12 starters from last year's 9-4 team.

In fact, Wofford's numbers might be more impressive than ever. The Terriers are averaging 40.4 points and 349 rushing yards per game, both tops in the SoCon. Nine different Terriers have scored rushing TDs this season, and a ridiculous 11 are averaging at least 5.0 yards per carry.

Overshadowed by the pile of rushing stats are the passing of quarterback Ben Widmyer — his efficiency rating of 202.2 would lead the SoCon by a wide margin if he had enough attempts — and a defense that had to replace seven starters but remains No. 2 in the SoCon in scoring defense (20.7 ppg).

If the snow is gone by Friday night — and Moore said it will be — this space likes Wofford to win in Boone for the first time since 2002. WOFFORD 33, APP STATE 28

This guy is picking Wofford, but we shall see. Boone is expecting close to 30,000 people at the game (in a stadium that holds roughly 22,000 ), so we should have a good home field advantage.

The wife is taking the kids trick or treating, I will be in the backyard, at the fire pit, with a LARGE bowl of candy.......a blazing fire........and the game on my outside TV. We are directing the trick or treaters to the backyard for candy. A couple of the neighbors are coming over and we will have some cold beers, without needing a cooler !!!!! Should be a good night.

Hope everyone has a good and safe Halloween and if you get the chance.......check out what should be a GREAT, High scoring, fun game.

GO APP STATE !!!!!!!!

Yea, cost of living if your not a college student is pretty crazy. The only reason college students can do it is they don't mind sharing rent and living in dumps .

Boone is one the most beautiful places I have ever been though, but can't say as I have ever been to South America though either .

I do alot of business in the Ft. Mill area, but actually live north of Charlotte in the happening town of Salisbury.

I will tune in as soon as I can get out of my costume (Darth Vader) and wreaking havoc with the neighbor kids,....

It took you 6 years to get through college,...(just kidding)

Wofford has really come on in the past decade. SEC of 1-AA, nice analogy. That makes The Citadel a Tennessee,....

GOOD LUCK,...!!

Here's another article on the game:

Quote:

GAME OF THE WEEK

No. 3 Wofford (6-1, 4-0 SoCon) at No. 2 Appalachian State (6-2, 4-0 SoCon), 8 p.m.

Halloween will definitely be more of a treat rather than a trick when Appalachian State hosts Wofford in a potential championship-deciding Southern Conference contest at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Appalachian State has won 39 of its 40 games at home between 2003 and 2008, but the Mountaineers last conference home loss before that was a 26-21 defeat by Wofford in 2002. That was the only time the Terriers have beaten the Mountaineers in Boone, N.C. since joining the SoCon in 1997.

Wofford's one loss (23-13 at South Carolina) was arguably more impressive than any of its five wins heading into its contest at No. 3 Elon last Saturday. But a 55-20 mauling of the Phoenix last week has given the Terriers a boost of confidence.

In the victory over Elon, Dane Romero (518 rushing yards and 11 TDs) led the charge with 87 yards and three touchdowns for a Wofford running game that ranks second nationally among the FCS ranks in total rushing output, at 349 yards per game.

Quarterback Ben Widmyer (44-of-64 passing, 742 yards, seven TDs and no interceptions) helped power an offense that also sports a No. 2 ranking on the FCS ledger in total offense amassed (480 yards per game). Widmyer completed 11- of-17 passes for 143 yards and a TD in the win, accounting for 202 yards of total offense and three TDs.

The Wofford defense, which limited a potent Elon offense to just 338 yards (62 yards rushing), currently ranks first nationally in turnover margin (2.14) and third nationally in sacks (3.17 per game), recorded four sacks and forced four turnovers in the victory over the Phoenix.

Talented linebacker Seth Goldwire (58 tackles, two interceptions and one TD) heads up the unit, while defensive end Mitch Clark (team-leading five sacks) anchors the nationally-acclaimed defensive line.

Appalachian State had its share of struggles in a 26-14 win over arch-rival Furman, getting out-gained 354-319. The biggest concern was the Mountaineers' inability to run the ball for just the second time this year (133 yards rushing, 154 yards below their average). Most of that limitation was due to signal-caller Armanti Edwards' (team-leading 561 yards rushing and eight TDs) career-low 16 yards rushing.

But lost in the mix was another solid game throwing the football (two TD passes in fourth quarter) for Edwards (1,456 yards passing, 15 TDs and two interceptions), as he connected on 16-of-24 passes for 186 yards and two TDs.

The running game was paced by Devin Radford (455 rushing yards and three TDs), whose 82-yard burst early in the second quarter set up Appalachian's second score of the contest.

The Mountaineer defense turned out one of its more impressive performances of the season, and linebacker Pierre Banks (48 tackles, four tackles-for-loss and two sacks in '08) finally had his breakout performance of the 2008 season, forcing two crucial red zone fumbles to go with his eight tackles and two sacks in the win.

Mark LeGree continued his stellar season in his first as a starter in the Appalachian secondary, notching his team-best fourth interception last week. The Mountaineers are tied for fifth nationally with 13 interceptions.

Appalachian State 24, Wofford 20.
