I am curious how many this is affecting but as of right now the local NBC affiliate WDTN and Time Warner can't play nice together. Thought to some this might be a major issue, really it isn't too me, but am curious on how far this "blackout" is affecting.

Oh and this is affecting you, are you also see HBO family in place of NBC?

I think they will have this issue hashed out soon, but like I stated wonder how many this is affecting.

We have to use the antenna when we want to watch something on that channel. I don't know much about the negotiations and what's holding up the agreement but, my guess is that the Time Warner folks are greedy bastards.

Yes, we see HBO Family in place of NBC. All I want to know is why are 7.1 and 7.2 having digital issues? Both of those channels are scrammbly ( ) for me.

Our 7.1 and 7.2 are fine so I would guess that it's on your end (most likely time warner's side) I have noticed that since we got the HD box from them our pictures at times are not worth the hassle, but it is what it is, can't control it so I don't complain, but can't wait till all the bugs are worked out.

Must-Carry/Retransmission Consent Election

Every three years, every local commercial television station has the right to elect either must-carry or retransmission consent. The initial election was made on June 17, 1993, and was effective on October 6, 1993. The next election occurred on October 1, 1996, and was effective January 1, 1997. All subsequent elections will occur every three years (October 1 1999, to be effective January 1, 2000; October 1, 2002, to be effective January 1, 2003; etc.).

Election of Must-Carry Status

Generally, if a local commercial television station elects must-carry status, it is entitled to insist on cable carriage in its local market. Each cable system with more than 12 channels must set aside up to one-third of its channel capacity for must-carry stations. For example, if a cable system has 60 channels, it must set aside 20 of those channels for must-carry stations. If there are 25 stations in the market which elected must-carry, the cable operator may choose 20 to carry. On the other hand, if only 15 stations elected must-carry in the market, the cable system would have to carry all 15 of these stations. A must-carry station has a statutory right to a channel position, usually its over-the-air channel number, or another channel number on which it has historically been carried.

Retransmission Consent Election

A cable system is not permitted to carry a commercial station without the station's consent. Therefore, if the local commercial television station elects retransmission consent, the cable system must obtain that station's consent prior to carrying or transmitting its signal. Except for "superstations," a cable system may not carry the signal of any television broadcast station that is not located in the same market as the cable system without that broadcaster's consent. Superstations are transmitted via satellite, usually nationwide, and the cable system may carry such stations outside their local market without their consent. The negotiations between a television station and a cable system are private agreements which may, but need not, include some form of compensation to the television station such as money, advertising time or additional channel access.

Yep they are in negotiations now, I figure they will hash something out soon, I am reading some articles on the situation now and all basically are the same fluff, off the air, discussions. No real update since Monday and that wasn't much. It is what it is.

Last week in Buffalo they didn't get to see their game. The cable company did pass out free rabbit ears. Local station make all their money on the local news. It won't be long till people just forget about that station. Time Warner will win.

Other than news, I don't see a need for local stations anymore. Have 1 local news station, make ABC, NBC, and CBS into regular cable stations.

We have have 5 local stations that each have a news department, and they all have the same stories. In fact NBC and ABC are owned by the same conglomerate and share resources, during hurricanes the host/anchors all join in one studio and broadcast the shows on both stations.

I get 40 local channels for free from the converter box!

With the economy and the way Time Warner has been treating it's customers I can see a lot of people trying it my way.
