In the old AFC Central days was the Browns Oilers rivalry up to par with the Bengals and Steelers rivalries? I ask this because In the late 1980s the Jerry Glanville Oilers were the biggest challenger to the Browns during the Kosar era

Also when Sam Wyche got on the mic to tell the bengals fans to stop throwing snowballs why did he say "you dont live in cleveland"? other stadiums have threw snowballs too.

Wyche said that b/c The Pound was known for throwing things on the field (dog bones, batteries, among other things) and made the teams switch sides a few times during games.

The Oilers rivalry wasn't up to the Steelers b/c, well there will always be that hate. Not with the Bengals b/c back then they were good and our in-state rival. But the Oilers were good with Warren Moon, Haywood Jeffries, etc. They were the ones we played during a snow game to get into the playoffs and a week later to knock us out. But I don't think the fans ever looked at them as rivals like the other 2 teams. I didn't anyways.

We had a decent rivalry with the Oilers. The Bum Phillips "kick in the door" statement, Clay Mathews stoning Earl Campbell, Warren Moon, Earnest Givens.....that brings back some memories.

From '85-90 the Browns were the premier team in the division. But, don't forget that the Bengals made it to the Superbowl in '88. From 1990-1993 the Oilers were the premier team. As far as the rivalry goes, the Oilers posed a much bigger threat than the Steelers did in those days. Pittsburgh was in a full rebuilding mode, which it came out of in 1993. Houston had perhaps the best team in the NFL until the playoff game in Buffallo where they were winning by 35 points at one point only to lose. - That was Houston's year.
The Browns Steelers rivalry was rekindled in 1994, when they met in the playoffs. We all know what happened to the AFC central shortly thereafter. The Browns became the Ravens, The Oilers became the Titans, and the Jaguars joined us.

Actually, the '93 Oilers were one of the best teams to watch. The '92 Oilers had a so-so defense and we were able to split with them that year! We'd always win or lose games 19-17 or 20-17 to them.

The Steelers had a better team in '92 (11-5 to Houston's 10-6) and it was more balanced. Houston had no defense that year.

In '93, the Oilers were 1-4 and ready to collapse. Then they went 11-0 to win the Central at 12-4! Buddy had the 46 defense and K. Gilbride had the run and shoot to take them places. The '93 Oilers lost to the Joe Montana Chiefs in the Divisional, who then lost to the Bills (as usual) in the AFC title game.

An Oilers-Cowboys SB would have been interesting to watch. The I-45 Super Bowl.

Go Browns!

That's right. Who could forget Marcus Allen's game winning TD in the Astrodome.

I'm not following you.

I was writing of the Oilers -Chiefs playoff game back in 1993-94. -Marcus Allen scored the game clinching td for the Chiefs.

Can you elaborate a little?

He could try, but usually he just digs himself a deeper hole.
