It shouldnt matter where we are ranked, there should be a playoff system so no voters, coaches, media biasis, or computer calculation screws up the game. It's only that way b/c the stiffs at the top of the small 10 and pac 10 dont want a playoff system cuz it exposes there supposedly "great" teams.

Your right, the media screws with it, but its allowed, b/c of the old stiffs in the NCAA.

But a playoff system will hurt the NCAA financially!?

Like how the NCAA Basketball tourney has hurt that sport...and all those brackets, and commercials...hype....ratings....playoff system = worthless.

Who is incredibly stupid at the top of the NCAA football commitee board thing?

Looch, I think you have a valid point. Ohio State is a very disciplined team and they have had significantly more talent across the board than the rest of the Big 10 for a number of years now.. in short, there was never much of a need for them to insert wrinkles to confuse other teams, they just lined up and beat them...

usc=overrated.

yup.

at least ohio state loses the games they are supposed to.

of course, usc won't catch the flack ohio state will...

come december, when they aren't in the title hunt, we'll hear mark may and all the bozos as bspn say "well, they aren't going to the championship, but they might be the best team in the nation"

i hate that, every year they say that when usc is not in the top 2 or 3, they did it last year after STANFORD beat them

are you implying that the bowl system is hurting the NCAA financially or in terms of media coverage? here we are in september talking about the bowl prospects of two teams (USC and OSU). i don't hear anyone talking about kansas' bracket ranking during the first month of the basketball regular season...and you know why? because the ncaa tournament has completely devalued the regular season in terms of excitement. there is no excitement in college basketball before the conference tournaments unless someone is undefeated. and if anyone would like to argue this point, i would ask them to list the 5 most exciting/anticipated college basketball games of the last 2-3 years (and please spare me Duke-UNC...that rivalry is worse than Yankees-Red Sox in that no one outside of those teams cares but it's forced down our throats by the national media regardless). heck, just name one game this year that you're looking forward to--and if you have to look up a team's schedule to answer this question, that's my point.

in college football under the current format...every game matters! maybe you can argue about the merits of a +1 system or 4 team playoff, but IMO that would only serve to weaken the crown jewels of the bowl system--the Rose, Orange, Sugar, and Fiesta bowls. Rose Bowl committee: woohoo, we get to host the national championship semifinal game! not to mention that the bowl system gives fans of each team the chance to travel and watch them play. how would that work with a playoff system with games one week apart? you'd have to just buy tickets to the game and hope that your team makes it?

i think people are pretty quick to poo-poo the bowl system, but it's worked for a long time in bringing the NCAA money and attention, and i for one like it the way it is. otherwise there would be no debates each year just "see you in the tournament".

Lets just do away with this joke of a Championship Game. Just award the trophy to the SEC Champ. They will probably be the most deserving...

The only way to get a real champion is a playoff system. The SEC is at a big disadvantage to start because of the strength of their conference, while other BCS conferences are so weak, they get what amounts to a free pass.

I don't think USC is so much overrated, just that anything can happen on any given night.

The thing is, Missouri can go undefeated, combined with USC's early loss, and the SEC can get passed over at the end of the season.

Thats a load of crap.

I hate Duke and UNC but I still love watching that game. If you dont get up two ranked teams in the Great Alaskan Shootout or a #1 vs #2 (like Tenn vs Memphis last year) then your just not a fan of college basketball.

And thats fine if you arent, College Football is bigger than College basketball. Its not because of the playoff/bowl format. Its because America LOVES football.

Football (NFL or college) will always have a more exciting regular season, they play far less games. When a team plays once a week in a 12 week season compared to a basketball team playing 3 times the amount of games, yeah the regular season is going to be a little more important.

they were almost 4 touchdown favorites in last night's game

on national tv as well, which we all heard the experts shove down our throats before ohio state, about how usc "lives for the big stage"

they aren't the best team in the country.

if ohio state was "overrated" because they went out on the road early in the year and faced usc, and lost without their best offensive player, then how is usc not overrated?

georgia would deck that usc team. maybe even florida too.

I disagree. I am not talking about rankings. Quite honestly, no one knows who is number 1 right now. Hell, Missouri might be number 1. To talk about who is #1 in September is a bit ridicuous IMO.

There are a tier of teams: GA, FLA, OK, MIZZOU LSU, SC, etc. who are in the September tier. SC is obviously out. The reason SC was number one was cause they whooped us, plus they are OVERHYPED, just like every year. With the precedent that Carroll has set, with ALL THAT TALENT, they will always be in that top tier to start the season. Most likely they will run the table and win the Rose Bowl. Keep in mind they are THE BEST BIG GAME PROGRAM in college ball over the past 6-7 year. If SC came out with a vengeance to whoop ass every game like they did against OSU and all their other big games, they would NEVER lose a game. For one thing, NO ONE would deck them in a big game. They have that much talent, and that much team football speed. Remember Carroll is the best recruiter in the nation by a longshot.

For some reason, they play down to their competition and DONT SHOW UP FOR ONE GAME, and it has become a trend the last few years. It is ridiculous, and IMO Carroll should take some heat for it.
