Here is an example Raiders owner Al Davis accused recently fired coach Lane Kiffin of lying and propaganda that had been going on for months. In a lively and at times bizarre press conference, Davis added that Lane wanted to hire his father Monte as defensive coordinator, and that Monte was on board with the plan. According to Davis, Kiffin asked to be let go for a possible college job and Bobby Petrino left the Falcons so suddenly in order to beat Kiffin to Arkansas. Other highlights: Davis blamed Kiffin for trading Randy Moss and referred to ESPN's Chris Mortensen as a "professional liar." http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerp...5207&spln=1

Watched the first half, all about Kiffin and why he was fired. Al really laid out a lot of private business stuff, imo. You don't typically throw this much negative words out about an ex-employee. It was quite a lot of Lane bashing. Al stated that he "gave" Lane a letter essentially saying 'cease and desist' badmouthing the organization and coaches or players. He called Lane a 'liar' and said that his bad mouthing, not his coaching was the 'cause' for the firing. Al read the letter, word-for-word; which I find very odd to be done as well. Al states that the lying was about Lane denying that he spoke to Al since prior to the Denver game (1st game), and Al said they spoke after the Buffalo game.
Al also called Chris Mortensen a 'liar' and a 'writer of lies', which I think will cost Al quite a bit in a slander case if I was Mort or a lawyer for ESPN.
Al also disclosed that Mort's 'source' was Lane, since Mort had the story 'not five minutes after telling Lane he was fired'.
It was a strange (and compelling) press conference, and it is only half over.

Man oh man, how would you feel if you were part of Raider nation?
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

you know Kiffin Sr will want revenge on Al, when the bucs play the raiders this year. I could see Gruden running up a score if the opportunity presented itself.

Being a Brown's fan,I find it very difficult to be critical of other orgs. Thier off-field antics are bizarre, but thier on-field production is equal to ours.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

He needs to get a grip. He's ruining his organization.
Never heard of Tom Cable, but after being enlightened by Excl and hooter, it sounds pretty amusing.

There is no reason for Al Davis to throw his head coach under the bus like that. It was classless, and Davis appears clueless.
If he honestly hopes to win a legal case and save some money, under the arguement that he fired Kiffin with cause, Why would he reveal the evidence in a press conference, when it gives the other side the opportunity to prepare?
If he hopes to create team unity, why would he reveal the divide over drafting Russel?
If he wants his team to win this season then why cause such turmoil?
If he wants his team to win in the near future, why would he throw his coach under the bus? Who would want to work for him now? What coach could possibly have any credibility with his team when they know their owner is up this type of hi-jinks.
The only thing this disgusting press conference accomplished was giving the finger to Kiffin.
I hope Kiffin gets a great attorney and sues Davis back to the stone age.

"I hope Kiffin gets a great attorney and sues Davis back to the stone age." The last time I checked, Davis would be at home back there along with Fred and Barney, the kids he walked to school.....

Kiffin said yesterday that he was going to have a press conference in regards to his getting fired today. Might be worth a listen after hearing the allegations of Davis yesterday. I was listening to this live yesterday, and all i could think of is how anyone could work for this man. He henpecks about everything! He tries to micromanage every aspect of the team, and also isn't willing to listen to other viewpoints. Why doesn't he take the field since he can't find anyone to fit the bill? Judge, Jury, and Executioner ...
There are no sacred cows.

Al Davis is freaking lunatic. That guy needs to sell the team and step down. He said Kiffin needs to do the honerable thing and resign, look in the mirror Al.....

Exactly! Be the coach if you want to control everything.
I can't say he's wrong for wanting total control of his own team....but if you hire a coach and then use him as a puppet, you should know it's going to turn bad eventually. Seeing is how you have Gruden and Shanahan in the past as examples of good coaches that left the Raiders.
I've always liked their uniforms the best. And yes, I was alive to see RedRight88.....but that was OUR mistake, not their good play to ruin our season. It's too bad Al is such a dinosaur.

I'll give him this much. For an 80-year old man, he's still in possession of most of his faculties. He articulated his thoughts well, even if he did ramble during some moments. I wasn't expecting that at all.
Having complimented him, he's crazy as a loon His moves are born from ideals of complete control not unlike Fascism, where he calls the shots instead of his subordinates. Kiffin was hired as a puppet-coach, and the move clearly backfired.
What Millen did with the Lions was bordering on criminal, but Davis (or as was comically pointed out, he shall now and forever be called Hubert J. Farnsworth) has made the Raiders once great tradition THE laughingstock of the NFL. The Bengals are just cheap liars who value talent and money over integrity and honor. Al Davis is just flat out crazy
***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy. Manziel, see Josh Gordon. Dumbass.***

Here's something I just saw on ESPN.com regarding this situation. This really makes you wonder why anyone would choose to play or coach in Oakland. I mean, even if the money is great, is this really an environment where the athletes and the coaches can maximize their talents? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sapp says Kiffin treated unfairly, blames Davis for Raiders' mess -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services How dysfunctional are the Oakland Raiders? So dysfunctional that Warren Sapp warns anybody who asks him about signing there to stay far away. "Nobody tells you how bad it is," the former defensive tackle said on Showtime's "Inside the NFL." " ... any person that calls me on the telephone, [I tell them] do not go anywhere near Oakland." Sapp, who retired after the 2007 season -- his fourth with the Raiders -- said that Lane Kiffin, fired this week by owner Al Davis, never got a fair chance in Oakland. "He came in there with a change of mentality. The whole system," Sapp said on "Inside the NFL." "He changed how the locker room looked because it was going to take that kind of overhaul for Oakland to become the proud franchise we all knew it was." Sapp said Oakland won't change for the better until Davis doesn't own the team anymore. "[Davis] is the common equation," Sapp said on "Inside the NFL." "You take him out, put him at home watching film or whatever he is doing -- you have a functioning football organization. But once he comes over the top, he goes and starts moving it around. "Al Davis knows football -- it's just '60s and '70s football. That's what it is. He's thinking that Cliff Branch is outside and [Jim] Plunkett is dropping back and you can throw it 80 yards down the field -- deep ball, deep ball, deep ball." Sapp even said that Davis would call in plays when Sapp was playing for the Raiders. "I remember the first two weeks I was there, we played a preseason game. Somebody came up one time and said, 'We're going deep right here, dog.' I said, how do you know? He said, 'The phone just rang.' "All the preparation that goes into a week of work is there, the practicing that you have to put in order to do these things, sometimes [Al Davis] messed with that part of it and that's what kills you," Sapp said on "Inside the NFL."
