I just wanted to let everyone nearby know that starting Friday, Aug. 29th, there is going to be a "reunion" commemorating the filming of The Shawshank Redemption in Mansfield. There will be tours at the Reformatory, bus tours to the other locations where filiming took place in Mansfield, Upper Sandusky, and Ashland (the bank where Andy withdrew his money). I don't know which actors will be there yet. I'm hoping to find out today. I know Morgan Freeman was supposed to come, but after his accident, I don't know his status. Anyway, if you want more details, I will post them later...or PM me.

A girl I met in college was from Hillsboro(sp?) by Ashland and she pointed out everything filmed in the area. Shawshank is one of my all-time favorite movies. It would be cool to go check that out. I have always wanted to check out the old reformatory. Isn't that the one that does the Halloween stuff too?

I just watched The Shawshank Redemption yesterday. It would be cool to go up to one of the tours.

One of the greatest movies of all time. Hard to believe that it didn't do well until it came out on vhs, and then dvd. I was shocked when I found out it is based on a book written by Stephen King. -Brilliant author.

A short story, and, yes, when he branches out beyond horror he has glimpses of brilliance.

What shocked me was that it lost out to Forrest Gump for best picture that year.
I stopped watching the Academy Awards after that.

And King's Shawshank is in the same book as The Body, which was adapted into the film, Stand By Me. Another great story and film.

Didnt he actually write that book under the pen name Richard Bachman? Or some thing like that?

It was in a book of short stories under King's name. I don't think it was one that he wrote under the Bachman name, unless it was done earlier under that name.

You are correct. It was in the book, Different Seasons, under SK.
But I highly recommend The Bachman Books, 4 short stories written under Richard Bachman. It's creepy cause in the story Rage, its like he predicted a Columbine type tragedies. Also in The Long Walk and The Running Man (very loosely adapted to the Ahnold film) its like he went beyond predicting reality TV and came up w/ crazy shows where people's lives are at stake.

Let me correct all of you (and enjoy it at the same time ). Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption was in Different Seasons, which is a book of four novellas. It is neither a short story or a novel and is about 110 pages long or something. And it is brilliant.
