I've been in the same league with the same group of guys for about 5 years now and we have decided that we are going to try our hands at a dynasty league. We are keeping every player and the only people drafted the following years will be rookies or free agents.

I am just wondering how that would change your strategy in the draft. I normally would consider LT to be the #1 pick but in a Dynasty I think I would go with Peterson.

After those two I'm really unsure. If this was a normal redraft I would never consider a QB but thinking about the possibility of Brady or Manning for the next 10 years is very intriguing to me. The career of a RB is not as long as a QB but would you take that into consideration.

I also think that guys like DA and Edwards would be very nice picks in a Dynasty league.

keeping everyone is kind of a weird keeper league. If you keep 3-5 player, you keep the core players on your team together and are able to improve your team through the draft. I would draft younger talent if I was forced to keep every player because you might suffer the 1st year but each year those young players will develop into stars of the league

In a dynasty league format ADP is number 1. Its then a toss up between Steven Jackson and LT for 2 or 3 depending on your view. Age is a big factor in dynasty leagues, players like Marion Barber and Jones-Drew become far more valuable than in a normal redraft format. Braylon becomes more valuable than TO etc etc

There are a number of sites that offer dynasty player rankings which is a good start to forming your own draft rankings.

Is there a salary cap or anything of that nature? Would love to try a dynasty league some time, sounds like a fun thing.

Signing Steinbach - $49.5 million
Signing Lewis - $5 million
Drafting Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn - millions more
Restoring the Browns to champions - priceless.

As of now we aren't having a salary cap. I think we are just drafting the whole team this year and then picking only rookies in future years. The draft isn't until the 30th so we have a little time to iron out the rest of the details.

I would like to have contracts and salaries but I just wonder if it might be too much to try to accomplish. It is something worth lookiing into.

I love a good dynasty league.

Im in a 14 team 36 man roster baseball dynasty, with 6 minor leaguers per team, its pretty intense.

Definitely age plays a factor in the draft, you definitely move some guys up due to age, and the draft is critical in a dynasty league, after that first draft, thats itman, you really need to build a solid group from there.

Id definitely go Peterson with the number 1 in a first year dynasty.

And I agree with what you said about taking a QB a little earlier, at least the stud ones. RB shelf life is a lot shorter and having a Brady or Manning at the helm year in and year out is nice.

While the difference in QB's isnt as great, in a first year dynasty Id definitely move them up a few slots.

I decided to give it a shot this year... and try to get one started.

if you want to join let me know. I'd prefer trying to get a bunch of people from this message board and people I know personally.

It's only 10 teams.

Just an update.

I just found out that I have the #3 pick in the draft. This is the first year draft of a Dynasty League. I should end up with a great player at that spot. I know that most people (including myself) would like to take the best RB in the first round.

My dilemma is this. We just had a vote among owners about the value of a passing TD. I voted 4 points but the majority voted 6.

So with 6 points a passing TD and it being the first year of a dynasty league. Am I crazy for considering Tom Brady with the 3rd pick assuming LT and AP are gone with the first 2 picks. It would be nice to have Brady on my team for the rest of his career. At the same time I could probably get Romo or someone of that talent in the 3rd or 4th.

We are also voting on point per reception which would also change things a lot. I have to see how that vote turns out.

Any teams still available?

I recently entered a $100 dynasty league and had the 3 pick. Same rules as yours for TD scoring and ours was ppr .... I drafted Steven Jackson. Even though he is holding out nothing has changed as far as dynasty leagues are concerned and I would still take him at 3.

For your information I have posted the first 3 rounds of the draft - hopefully this will help you ... some very strange selections though!

I'm definitely leaning towards Jackson also. I'm afraid if I take Brady with the third pick that there won't be much left for RB by the time I pick in the second.

Your right some of those picks are very surprising to me.

Also no spots available in our league. It is the same group of 12 guys for the past 8 years. We just decided to try our luck with a Dynasty this year.

Just had my draft for the first year of a dynasty league. Not real excited to have some of these guys for the rest of their careers.

QB
Rottenberger
Jason Campbell

RB
Steven Jackson
Ryan Grant
Rashard Mendenhall
Ahmad Bradshaw
Cadillac Williams (I know but maybe I'll get lucky since it is a dynasty league)
Chris Johnson

WR
Marvin Harrison
TJ Houshmandzadeh
Roddy White
Jerry Porter
Donte Stallworth
James Hardy

TE
Todd Heap

I know some of these guys aren't going to help me much now but I like the mix of vets like Harrison if he can stay healthy and young guys like Roddy White and James Hardy. Also I think Mendenhall will be very good so my RB should be good for a long time.

I can't cheer for Roethlisberger for the rest of his career so he is already on the trading block. I just waited a long time to get a QB so he was the best available.
