Hmmmm....

Unhappy with role, Lynch reportedly leaving Broncos
Associated Press

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- John Lynch's days with the Denver Broncos appear to be over.

The veteran safety, entering his 16th season, met with coach Mike Shanahan on Wednesday and told Denver's KCNC-TV that Shanahan gave him permission to explore other opportunities.

Lynch skipped a team meeting Tuesday night and was excused from Wednesday's workouts for what Shanahan termed personal reasons.

Lynch was told he'd compete for a starting safety job when he took a pay cut this offseason. With the emergence of Marlon McCree, Lynch didn't play a single snap in the nickel or dime packages during the first week of training camp.

Darn it. I had the article all copied and ready and I see that you beat me to it. Darn you!

On a more substantive note, I definitely don't think it would hurt. I don't know if we could afford him, however.

The impressive part is that, the dude may have lost a step, but from what I've seen, he's still decent at the least.

Weird overall, I was watching the news last night and he was talking about that he was willing to accept a diminished role... and that he knew that he wasn't going to utilized like he was in the past.

Sounds like they weren’t even using him in a diminished role.

Would it be feasible for us to grab him? Would he really see time here with Terry Cousin kind of filling that veteran, come in on passing downs and maybe to fill for injuries type role?

Can he play corner? If not then there may not be room on the roster. Who gets bumped? Jones, Pool,Adams or Sorensen? If one goes down, you betcha...

Oddly, that same phrase was the first thing that went through my head

If he could somehow play FS the way Brian Russell did for us, we definitely could use him. One year contract, the motivation of playing with a legit team, I'd feel much better about our secondary with Lynch.

I think he's a SS unfortunately though

when Lynch first left the Bucs I would have loved to see him in Cleveland but now I think he's a bit past his prime, don't get me wrong, I'm sure he can still put a hit on a player but he's also lost some steps, obviously, why the Broncs are no longer interested. Good luck to him, I'm sure he'll land somewhere.

What I find odd is that Opie and RAC seem less concerned about the safety position than we do here. RAC stated that he is content with the personnel there.

I kinda get the same feeling with the CB situation, but to a lesser extent. What I mean is that the FO :
1) was willing to trade Bodden
2) did not draft a CB
3) did not panic, like the Redskins do, when Holly went down
4) did not bite on Ty Law's bait
5) "only" brought in Perry after Holly went down

IIRC Opie has stated that he is keeping his options open when it comes to trading for a CB, but one week into TC and he has still not moved? Maybe the CB situation is better than we think

Maybe because CBs and Safeties fit in a lot quicker and take a lot less transition time? Having never really played truly organized ball, I don't know if that's true or not.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

I find it odd that we on this board, think we know more about the talent or the postion or the team, than Opie or RAC.

Why? For the previous seven years (excluding last year) we've had very little reason to think "they" were right...
