.....on my way into work this morning.

We got a big bridge in Melbourne which is notorious for jumpers (1 every 3 weeks) and on my way up it this morning, noticed several cars backed up on the inside lane.
As i got closer i saw a kid sitting on the barrier and as i got level with him he jumped off.

Couldn't have been more than late teens/early twenties i reckon. I was absolutely gobsmacked.

My gosh! I'm sorry to hear that. How are you dealing with it? That would freak the crap out of me.

When I worked at Rat Shack (Radio Shack) in downtown Fort Worth(less), I witnessed a woman climb up the fire escape of a building (I think it was 7 stories) and then take a header into the parking lot. She hit the back corner of a car. I watched it happen and there was nothing that could have been done about it.

Well needless to say it rattled me a bit at the time...i was like a stunned mullet for a while but i'm cool.

Just couldn't believe what i saw at the time.

Did a bit of research earlier, we get one jumper every 3 weeks on average on the Westgate Bridge.

It happens so often that it doesn't even make the news here...i guess they don't want to make it look glamorous or summat.
There was one several weeks back, a woman in her late twenties jumped off with her 18 mth old daughter in her arms.

Surprising that i haven't seen more to be honest, i drive that bridge most days.

Looking at that picture on the link i posted, this kid would have jumped off on the far right of the piccy about a third of the way up....i don't think he was anywhere near the water....feel sorry for the people who gotta clean him up.

That is something that sticks with you....glad I have never been witness to something like that.

You have to wonder what sort of problems that person felt were so great the only escape was death???

I saw a documentary some time back, called "The Bridge". It was about bridge jumpers at the Golden Gate bridge...seems about 3 people a month jump from there....watching people jump on film was haunting enough.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

If you want to end it, fine. Don't take your kid with you. Someone would have gladly adopted her. Shame.

Sorry you had to see that Rid.

Sorry to hear about what you witnessed Riddler, I can sort of understand what you are going through. Ballpeen is right on the mark when he says this will stick with you. In 1989 I witnessed a serious car crash in which a drunk driver plowed into a kid my age car, and the force of the wreck was directly in the middle of the driver side door. The group of us ran across the street and I pulled his already dead body out of the car before it exploded (which didn't happen but we thought was since his vehicle was on fire), but to this day, I think about that kid and his family and that almost 20 years ago and I remember it vividly.

Keep your spirits up and good luck with the grieving process you will/are going through.

That nuts ! When I was in the Army I was standing in the chow line and this guy on the 5th floor decided to kill himself by tying one end of the fllor buffer cord around his kneck and toss the buffer itself out of the window . Since the buffer got stuck on the 3rd floor ledge he only suceeded in choking the hell out of himself before his floormates busted the door and intervened . After I found out he didn't die I realized it was probably one of the funniest things I have ever witnessed ( sounds disturbing but it is even funnier now ) and BTW after he got the help he needed he was actually decorated in the Desert Storm campaign for saving the life of a wounded Iraqi Officer.

It's a boy saving a drowing woman who attempted a suicide by jumping off of the bridge

Maybe this will help you
