Found this article giving the salary of every player in the NFL. Some things of interest, according to this the Browns have the two highest paid OL in the NFL in Thomas and Steinbach. Also Ryan Pontbriand is slated to make almost $5 million this season. I think this would account to some Cap magic by the front office to make some cap space for next season. This would be like setting unachievable bonuses or something like starting at C or making the pro bowl as a center.

keep in mind.

Andra Davis... 3.6 mil 08 hit
JJ...3.062 mil 08 hit
Bentley...2.35 mil 08 hit
Willie McG 3.666 mil 08 hit

Thats 12.678 mil that won't be hitting us in 09. With possibly only AD not going to retire and will want to continue here.

We will have to think about signing BE long term in 09.

Nice to see how much we are spending on our OL...we got it right. It sure would be nice to start drafting future OLmen who could pick up on an equal or possibly upgrade to what we now have as only Joe Thomas should be the only irreplaceable one. Steinbach is close also.

Surprised to see that DA's cap his is only 3.333 mil - his signing bonus was not too much of a breaker - I believe we gave him Roster Bonuses for the future which will take up a big chunk.

Interesting numbers to mull through during the Dead Zone. Thanks for the fun

I just realized how much we have tied up in our OL. almost 20million in our left side alone. Worth every penny though. The fact that they can hold their own over there really opens up our offense.

eo, DA's big cap hits will occur in 2009 (due to a large roster bonus) and 2010 (due to salary/roster bonus) - though it slightly differs from the SI article.

Year..........Salary................Pro-rated signing bonus...........Roster Bonuses............Total Cap Hit
2008..........$950,000.00........$2,333,333.33..........................................................$3,283,333.33
2009..........$1,450,000.00......$2,333,333.33......................$5,000,000.00...............$8,783,333.33
2010..........$7,450,000.00......$2,333,333.33......................$2,000,000.00...............$11,783,333.33

He also has incentive bonuses available up to $1m.

The amount of money you have invested really doesn't have much bearing on how well they perform.

Kenny Wright's also on there for just under a mill...

From the looks of things with players like LCB, Wright, and a $5 mil long snapper we could have some decent change next year in the FA market, and money for resigning some key guys. That along with not having high draft picks this year, and I think Quinn's deal is loaded this year with incentives that we will have to spend next as well. It appears that Savage and our front office has us sitting pretty nice for next year.

I'm confused

I thought Bentley QUIT or was at least cut, wouldn't that lower the cap hit and .....
Didn't Davis sign a substantially lower contract this off season?

Yup, they are wrong. Savage said in his presser that we are off scotch free cap wise with Bentley. And he was going to have a cap hit of 600k this year. This thing is off. For example here is Joe Thomas's contract info from RotoWorld: RotoWorldJoeThomas

And that is why in another post...in another Galaxy FAR FAR AWAY...

I included DA in a PUT UP OR SHUT UP LIST for the 08 season.

It would cost us 4,666,666.66 in Cap hit with the prorated Signing bonus. But would save us 4,116,666.67 in total cap space if traded.

Clearly its set up as a PUT UP or SHUT UP year for DA.

In that same galaxy I had Stallworth in the'put up or shut up " category. After looking at the cap numbers, I'm not so sure.
