- Football - Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw admitted in a radio interview to using steroids during his playing days.

Bradshaw, who led the Pittsburgh Steelers to four Super Bowl titles in a six-year span in the 1970s, said on the Dan Patrick Show that he only used steroids to help him deal with injuries.

"We did steroids to get away the aches and the speed of healing," Bradshaw said. "My use of steroids from a doctor was to speed up injury, and (I) thought nothing of it. . . . It was to speed up the healing process, that was it. It wasn't to get bigger and stronger and faster."

The No. 1 overall pick in the draft in 1970, Bradshaw also said he took the steroids with a doctor's prescription. Steroids were not illegal when Bradshaw played.

Bradshawe used Steriods

I found this story interesting, and wonder if it will open a bigger can of worms about steroid abuse by players of this generation, we already know of some, but truly wonder if more will come clean

Saw this yesterday.

The rumor was the Steelers introduced 'roids into the NFL in the '70s. Doesn't surprise me one bit.

i really dont think this is a problem.

A lot of people are given steroids to speed up healing. I feel like this is a non-issue.

What is a big issue is, what these players put into their body that they dont know. Maybe he was told it would help him heal faster.

Maybe because its so close to home, but why do you hear about the so many suicides from Steelers players from that era. It might only be around 4, but thats more then I hear about any other team.

People put stuff in their body all the time that they don't know what it is. Why are football players supposed to be different? We all trust the doctor's we go to. Especially when money is concerned. His doctor prescribed it and told him why. There is no reason he should doubt the doctor given the time of the prescription.

I don't see this as a problem.

The way I understand it Bradshaw didn't use an anibolic steroid. Iám using a mild steroid right now prescribed by the VA for a skin condition. I asked the DR and she said it wasn't the same thing.

Exactly. My brother, may he rest in peace, had medical conditions that required him to be on Steroids for close to 20 years. There are different forms of them to do different things. But you don't see that clarification made in the media. It's a sensationalistic approach to journalism. Print the story, just not the whole story....

Unfortunately for Terry I think he's not smart enough to understand the difference.... inlcuding the media apparently... corticosteroids are not illegal and are typically used to help with the healing process

In terms of what Keys said above about not knowing what you put in your body... I personally think no adays you really need to be informed and keep yourself updated on everything you are putting in your body. I know too many doctors who are either idiots or don't communicate with others, so you could have medications taht are interacting with each other and not doing their jobs...

in terms of athlete's no adays they better damn well know exactly what's going in their bodies because ignorance does not keep you out of trouble. When I was in college we had a whole list of things that we knew we couldn't take because they would cause a positive drug test.
