Jordan was too big of a cap hit after trading Fabian Washington. They just re-signed Fargas to a 3 year deal this offseason. That leaves Michael Bush or Rhodes. Rhodes cleared up 1.75M, which put them back under the cap. Bush would not have done that, and they have high hopes for Bush still. Rhodes made the most sense.

Agreed. I'm still wondering how they're going to sign all their draft picks, especially McFadden.

Anyone interested in picking up Rhodes?

I'm really oblivious to how much he costs and all anf if hes worth it but he had a run with the colts he would be a decent 3rd down back in the rotation with Lewis.

Nah.

I only think he had a decent run with the Colts because....well, it was the Colts.

From his signing a year ago:

Dominic Rhodes, a 16-game starter for the world champion Colts in 2006, agreed to a two-year contract worth $7.5 million. The deal includes a $1 million signing bonus and a $1.5 base salary for 2007.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/03/09/SPG1VOIH3H2.DTL

===================================

So, he ended up with $2.5million for his year with the Raiders + whatever incentives he might have reached (probably not many as he didn't have that many yards).

I wouldn't say that is a horrible career decision since Indy was starting to favor Addai at the time anyway and it likely would have taken Rhodes 3 years in Indy to match that 1 year salary.

He should be able to catch on now in a place like Houston that needs a veteran backup RB or he could wait to see what injuries happen in preseason. He's an adequate backup just like he always was and will be fine.

just clickin, I wouldn't mind having a decent backup for Lewis in case of injury. However, it would have to be for the right price. I do think Rhodes would fill that role very well. Though I admit, it's our D that needs the most improvement.

When you are a backup player on a Super Bowl winning team, and would be nothing more than a backup on any other team, you take what you can get and run.

I would say he made a great decision since he signed a huge contract and never would have gotten that type of money in Indy.

No thanks on Rhodes. Remember, he served a 4 game suspension last year for violation of the league's substance abuse program and also had a drunk driving arrest (though he pleaded down to reckless driving). Also had a 2002 charge of domestic battery. Sounds like Cincy should pick him up, not us.

Rhodes signs deal to return to Colts

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—The Colts have put their tag-team runners—Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes—back together.

The tandem that helped Indianapolis win its first Super Bowl title has been reunited after Rhodes agreed on a one-year deal to return to the Colts. Rhodes’ agent, Mike McCartney confirmed the signing Wednesday in an e-mail to The Associated Press although he did not disclose financial details.

The move means Indy will have two 1,000-yard runners in its backfield next season.

What fans will remember most about the two runners is their impressive 2006 playoff run.

As they split carries, Addai and Rhodes combined for 190 yards rushing in a 23-8 victory over Kansas City, closed out a 15-6 victory in Baltimore when Indy settled for five field goals and then helped wear down New England’s defense in the AFC championship game. Addai scored on a 3-yard run with a minute left to give Indy a 38-34 victory over the Patriots.

In the Super Bowl, they were even better. Addai ran 19 times for 77 yards, while Rhodes finished with 113 yards rushing and one touchdown in a 29-17 victory over Chicago.

The transition should be smooth for Rhodes.

He spent his first six NFL seasons with the Colts, rushing for 2,274 yards. Rhodes set the league record for an undrafted rookie with 1,104 yards rushing in 2001. He also was the starter for all 16 regular-season games in 2006 before losing the job to Addai in the playoffs.

Then, last spring, Rhodes became a free agent and signed a two-year deal with Oakland. He was hoping for a chance to start, but after serving a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, his opportunities dwindled. He finished with 75 carries, 302 yards and one TD.

Shortly after the NFL draft, the Raiders released him.

The addition of Rhodes means the Colts will have added more depth to an already talented backfield.

Addai, the starter, topped 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons. Indy also drafted Michigan running back Mike Hart in the sixth round and still has last year’s primary backup—Kenton Keith.

Keith was arrested last month, six days before the draft, after police said he refused to leave the parking lot of a nightclub. He was charged with criminal trespassing and has pleaded not guilty.

Rhodes also has a legal history in Indy.

He was pulled over by an Indiana state trooper in February 2007 for driving 81 mph in a 55-mph zone. He was originally charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit, but later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

In 2002, Rhodes was charged with domestic battery in connection with a disturbance at his home involving his child’s mother, Latrina Moore. He avoided prosecution and was placed in a diversionary program and underwent mental health counseling.

Rhodes sat out the entire 2002 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, which occurred during training camp.

Packers cut ties with veteran receiver Robinson

The Green Bay Packers announced the release of wide receiver Koren Robinson on Friday.

The Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs are interested in signing Robinson, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

Robinson completed a one-year suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy in October. He also has served jail time for a high-speed chase with police in Minnesota in 2006. But he appeared to put his troubles behind him, impressing teammates with his work ethic and efforts to stay clean.

Robinson, 6-foot-2, 205-pounds, originally joined the Packers as a free agent after Week 1 of 2006. He appeared in four games for Green Bay in 2006.

This past season, Robinson played in nine games for the Packers and had 21 catches for 241 yards and one touchdown. He finished second on the team with 25 kickoff returns for 596 yards.

Robinson originally entered the league as the ninth overall pick in the 2001 draft by the Seattle Seahawks out of North Carolina State. He spent four seasons with the Seahawks before playing for the Minnesota Vikings in 2005. Robinson has 263 career receptions for 3,844 yards and 14 touchdowns.
