For all us camping Dawgs out thier, Next weekend is the opening weekend for our camping resort. Last weekend we got out thier and rakes & hauled leaves....about 60 piles, we'd rake them onto a tarp and then carry it about 300 yards to the leaf pile. Thank God for great kids, they all worked thier behinds off raking & hauling leafs, couldnt have got it done without them, & we had fun doing it, My youngest daughter was a machine, never stopped in 5 hours of work, she's only 14 runs 2-3 miles every other day and it showed out thier, she out worked all of us and she was sleep by 9;00 pm that night got the hammock up & other decorations my girlfrriend wanted up.

Suppose to go out & hook up the water & drain the lines this weekend but with the cold coming in might just wait until next, but after that it's light a fire cook a few hamburgs, hot dogs and drink a few beers.

anyway anybody have plans for camping this year....

I don't go camping, so I didn't think I should respond since I had nothing of substance to add to your thread. But now look, you've gone and made me post.

Sorry ...... I've just never been much of a camper. If i can't have a toilet, shower, cable TV, internet and full kitchen, then it's just a little too rough for me to rough it.

We have a 36' motor home (we're poor, so I don't call it a coach like th rich people do).

We took it to Bristol for the race a couple of weeks ago - $750 in gas!!!

We'll still use it quite a bit this summer, but our trips will be closer to home. The past 2 years we've gone to Attica Indiana atv'ing at a place called "The Badlands". It's awesome - plus it's private property, all 1300 acres, so my daughter can ride as well (she's 7 now, b-day in july). However, we do have reservations for this summer again but if things don't pick up for me workwise, we will probably have to skip that.

We go to Jellystone campground several times a year as well. Not my favorite place, but it's awesome for kids. We usually take one of my daughters friends, or even another couple that has a kid her age. We'll still do that for sure, but again, probably not as often.

Plus, on top of everything else, my daughter loves to sleep in a tent so we usually do that 7 or 8 times a summer in our back yard. Sit by the fire, hot dogs, burgers, brats, spooky stories, then the other adults go home and the kids sleep in the tent. (unfortunately, I have to sleep out there with them since they always seem to get scared right before bedtime).

I'm ready to pull the camper out of the garage and open her up. I love to tinker around inside. We have to get the truck looked at before we tow...acted funny last time it was driven. Hopefully it's NOT the tranny.

''anyway anybody have plans for camping this year''

What you all are describing is RVing. Not camping. Camping involves tents, sleeping bags, and the perception at least, of life with out electronics but with mosquitoes. So it sounds as though no one here, thus far, has plans of camping this summer.

My wife and I do a little backpacking each summer. We're thinking of heading up towards Mt Adams for a short hike, 8-12 miles, once the weather changes for good/dry.

In February 07 we went to Kauai and hiked the Na Pali Coast Trail. 22 miles of breathtaking views of ocean and jungle. A great hike into a very secluded beach where we spent 4 nights camping beside the ocean. Amazing trip.

I camp, not RV. I sleep in the tent end of my pop up and the only "electronics" I have are a radio for weather and Reds games, and a batter operated clock. There are plenty of mosquitoes, flies, ticks, bees, and whatever else floats your boat.

I think if people consider it "camping" then it is. The ones that get me are the big boy RV bus type things that pull in, set up, then sit inside watching movies all day and night. What is the point??

Back in 1977 my wife and I bought a 24 ft trailer. We lived in Brunswick, Ohio at the time and we camped in Andover, Ohio near Pymatuning Lake. We liked it out there so much when we retired we had a home built out here. I guess I really don't camp anymore but it sure seems like it all year long.

I didn't mean to come off as saying there is anything wrong with RVing or "car camping" (esentially bringing everything including the kithcen sink and setting it up outside). I do it during music festivals. I've brought a portable bar and four barstools with me and set up a tavern under a pop up awning. Mini fridge and all. Though I slept in a tent I hardly roughed it. Nor do I consider it camping.
I guess our definition is a little different. To me camping is taking what you can carry on you, in one load, and heading out into some place quiet. Away from the "modern" world and it's many distractions.

I call what you do backpacking. Actually, rustic camping isn't my thing...I'm afraid of the dark.

Call it what ya want, done both, do both, I'm for anything that gets people off thier behind and outside, exspecially kids

one of the best trips was a conoe trip a plan takes ya into Canada drops ya off in a lake in the middle of nowhere points ya to a river system and the pilot says see ya in a week, here's a flare use it for emergenceys only. Me and two buddies camping alone the river, eating what we catch or kill..beer..lots of fun.
