with warm weather hopefully coming & staying soon it's time to think about getting out & planting your garden, Last night I spread my compost & rototillerded it in, giving it 2-3 weeks to blend in & fertulize my soil before planting. This year I'm going with the basics again were pretty busy so keep'en the main stays 1-2 tomatoe plants, not sure which type yet 5-10 green bean plants, 2-3 rows of sweet corn 2-3 rows of green onions which I plant more as I use them up. Let us know whats your planting & how you keep animals & pests away, i plant a few Marigolds around the garden, they say the smell keep squirrles & rabbits away when the .22 isnt around so far it's worked, both things that is...

I have tulips, live-forevers, lilacs, and peonies... plant once and you're done. Veggies, I have no place to plant. I did radishes and a few other things one year and it all got flooded.

Alamanda's, Gardenias, Night blooming Jasmine, Blue Daze for color, some Plumbago's as an accent around a Palm tree, and some sort of Lily I found.
Got an area up front that I think I am going to go all tropical with, I just haven't figured out exactly what yet. There is a gardenia tree in the center currently.
I know it's not veggies, but, veggies don't grow so well in the sandy soil in my yard.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Damn dude, you are so cool.
We won't be planting this year because we will mostly likely move before it's time to reap the benefits.

I'm havin' a great time, thanks. Never been happier I just think it's funny as hell that you act like a high school kid bragging about his drug use in every thread. Sorry, it's funny.

Soon as I get my tiller back I'm gonna overhaul it (it's an old-ass Allis-Chalmers walk behind that has never had anything done to it, probably not even an oil change, lol) and the gonna till up a small section of the back yard.
I've had hot peppers growing indoors since late November and I plan to grow a bunch of lettuce (romaine & mesclun), radishes, onion and bell peppers. Probably do some Roma tomatoes and some Grape Tomatoes. I may throw in some watermelon too. I did Eggplant last year... that was good at first, but it got tiring fast, lol.
Other parts have been in the ground since last year.... strawberries, raspberries (red and yellow), blackberry and bluberry. I've also got two grape vines and a Horseradish plant.

Question: We have tomatoes & mayo sandwiches atleast two times a week in the summer, were always looking for a brand of tomatoes that not only has a good taste but is soild, some types are full of seed & water and dont make a good sandwich, I think last year we had best boy type and they were pretty good, but open to suggestions on something new to try.

sadly, no .... those particular ones (dorset nagas) have yet to germinate even a single seed, but all of the other pepper plants (habaneros, thai finger hots & cayenne) are all doing well, albeit they're still small in stature from being inside. The ones I had imported require a constant 80 degree soil temp to germinate and I've had problems (at best) trying to recreate that indoors in Cleveland during winter, hehe. I'm not keeping my thermostat that high and even an incandescent grow light doesn't do the trick. I've got a new rig set up though using an aqaurium, 2 inches of water and a standard tank heater set to 88 degrees to keep it balmy that I'm hoping will work... but I just set it up this past weekend so it'll be a little while before I know anything.

I'm thinking about planting a couple of those "giant tree tomato" plants.
They are supposed to be super productive, and take up very little room. (and produce giant size tomatoes)
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

The deer around here eat like pigs. My yard is apparently a deer rest stop. When I get up early there's a whole gang of them laying on my back lawn.I tried the Marigold thing with no luck and even bought spray on deer repellent. The deer thought it was ranch dressing.I know when I'm beat. I gave up and grow peppers and tomatos in pots on the deck.

I'll probebly go with the better boy again too, they do taste good on toasted bread with mayo & lettuce.....I cant get out of it, any of it, bacause if I dont do it, it wont get done, I plant, weed, water, harvest 99.9% of the garden, hopefully with my oldest daughter living next to me this year I can get her out to help old dad.........

I had never heard of the 'Better Boy' tomato before.... looks interesting, I'll have to give it a try.
For sandwiches you're generally gonna want somevariant of Beefsteak tomato I think, but the "watery-ness" of them will probably be dictated by the growing conditions more than the variety I would think. Like when a tomato breaks/splits its skin; its because it took in too much water too fast and the skin couldn't expand fast enough for how the fruit swelled. I would think if you pick the fruit too soon after a heavy rainfall or lots of watering that you're going to have a runny sandwich.
