The beautiful thing about the league meetings in Palm Beach, Fla., is that, for one week, teams set aside rivalries and past transgressions. The perfect example occurred Tuesday night at a local eatery when a chance meeting took place between the brass of the Baltimore Ravens, accompanied by minority owner Art Modell, and the front office of the Cleveland Browns, accompanied by former quarterback Bernie Kosar. The negative history between the Browns and Modell is well-publicized. Modell, a former owner of the Browns, had an ugly fight with the city of Cleveland before taking one of the long-standing NFL franchises to Baltimore. But what happened next is not what you might think. There was no brush off or ill will. In fact, Modell, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome, owner Steve Bisciotti and coach John Harbaugh all shared a couple laughs with the Browns' contingent that included Kosar, Browns coach Romeo Crennel, general manager Phil Savage, and Trip MacCracken of the front office. "We didn't know they were going to be there, and they didn't know we were going to be there,'' Ravens public relations director Kevin Byrne said. "So we were all surprised.'' Perhaps Browns and Ravens fans can be just as kind to each other next season. http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks/0-6-20/Modell--Browns-exchange-pleasantries.html

I don't care how diplomatic our Front Office wants to come off with the Ravens. Modell can rot in hell.
As far as the fans, though, I have to say, Mike is a good guy. They're not all bad.

mike is awesome
i've never really dealt with raven fans, but i can't blame them for taking our team, it's not like they plotted with modell to move the browns out, hell someone took their team too...
but nonetheless, they are an afc north foe, so screw them.

Can't really see anyone who'd be mad (aside from Kosar maybe, but he wasn't with Cleveland when they were shipped out). Phil was with the Ravens, Romeo wasn't on the Browns until after the comeback. They've moved on. Now if it was your everyday run of the mill fan, I could imagine some of the product from that eatery would have wound up on Modell
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

That's the way I saw it, none of those involved on the Browns side were part of the controversy in '95 so they really wouldn't have the same ill will that the fans have.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Well, since we're all really good friends now, why doesn't Art come to the Rats/Browns game this year in Cleveland and give us an opportunity to welcome him back with open arms.

Never. Though I know their fans had nothing to do with us losing our team, and before that they lost theirs to Indy, but every Ravens game I have never met a bigger bunch of jerks in my life. Bengal fans are #2. All they can say is how they won the SB only after the team left Cleveland. Screw that.
Our honor defend, we will fight to the end, for OHIO! GO BUCKS!

I bet this is how the convo went.
Ravens: "Remember when we used to beat you?" *laughs*
Browns: "Remember Phil Dawson's kick? Remember last year? Remember Tim Couch running off the field waving to your fans after he owned the Ravens? Remember this year?" *Laughs*
*Ravens leave pissed off*
you had a good run Hank.

Sure the front office folk lauhed it up, but I GUARANTEE it took every bit of Bernie's willpower to be civil. Bernie is a Browns FAN.

IMHO....We ALL Should Move On....It has been almost 13 yrs. since all that stuff happened....I was as pissed as Everyone when Modell moved the team in 1995....However, look around things have changed....We are back !.... Our team is Better than the Ravens on and off the field and as always We Had/Have Better Fans !....While I was never a huge Modell fan( I'm 40 so you can gauge my Browns Memories from that....) , before he moved the team I didn't hate the guy....He's an unhealthy old man....IMHO it's time to stop targeting the guy....I mean IF we didn't get our team back in 1999 , I would on the Band Wagon with the Extremist ....Now however , it's time to throw Modell a bone.....and not throw the bone at him ....

To err is human ...to forgive devine Is that the way the saying goes? Modell is an old man in a wheel chair. He's not in control of the team anymore. Heck at his age he's probably not in control of his bowels anymore. I always thought number 82 was a class act and felt bad for Colts fans, As long as we keep coming out on the good side of the scoreboard it's all so much beer under the beezer to me.

Modell is a bad businesman bad owner (ie management). Bad person.
I hope he rots. Be nice all you want and I usually am, but he stinks and I hate him. I don't wish death or illness on him, but I will never, ever, like him or forget what he did.

Art Modell is a pig. I'd rather our FO didn't talk to that back-stabbing money whore.

I do understand where your coming from and somewhat agree time to move on and forget about him....
BUT...there are somethings in life that are just too darn hard to forgive, The Browns have always been part of my family and when ya do something to my family such as he did, he took a family memeber away from us, that is unforgiveable in my eyes.

I really find the level of emotion interesting considering there are plenty fellow dawgs on this board eager to defend Walmarts unleashing their army of lawyers on a disabled womans nursing home money because she signed a coerced contract BTW I was not referring to you Lamp just the situation in general. A guy moves his business property to make more money and we wish him a mouth full of puss filled boils and a horrible death.VS company lawyers calulate ways to screw their own employees when they can least afford it in order save insignificant amounts of money, and thats just business. What a country!

This sentence gave me a weird visual of Bernie and Modell circling each other in a West Side Story kind of way... Bernie snapping his fingers while Modell tosses a meatball back and forth between his hands.
I really need to get out more.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Well ---- Bernie was on Tony Rizzo's radio show this week and they talked about this encounter. Bernie told Rizzo that he "felt sorry for Modell" - sounds like Bernie isn't holding a grudge anymore.

Bernie was on WKNR today and he didn't come right out and say it but eluded to the fact that Modell is in pretty bad shape. He said Modell looks "really old" (duh) and is confined to a wheelchair.
Bernie actually seemed like he felt sorry for him and had a "forgive and forget" type of mentality.

This interview was this evening on Munch's show. Bernie wasn't necessarily defending Modell but it almost seemed like he thought that Modell couldn't have gotten a new stadium built to keep the team here.
The freakin' Bengals owner (Mike Brown) held Cincy hostage or else they would move. I'm sure if push came to shove, Modell could've used the same ploy. I'd like to think Browns' fans are a wee bit more rabid (and loyal) than Bengals fans and would've come through.
