For the sake of conversation let's assume we have the first overrall pick in the 08 draft (let's say Tuna wanted Anderson and we traded him)..Who do you take?
Go Browns!!

Run DMC is hard to pass up but adding Chris Long to our defense would greatly help it. He is familiar with a 3-4 and he has a non-stop motor...
( Just add Justin Smith or Albert Hanyesworth and we might actually have a line)
Go Browns!!

I think you gotta ask this question in 2 months.
It all depends what goes down in free agency.

That's were we differ. I think our free agency really wouldn't affect the decision ( Note unless we sign Michael Turner to a monster deal)
I mean Phil has said FA is for needs and draft best player available (with need factored in)...
I think Chris Long has Richard Seymour talent
Let's say we do sign Haynesworth or Smith ( I doubt we get both) we still need at least one DE ( I don't think Dorsey could ever be a NT and I really don't know how good of a DE he could be) and a RB no matter what happens...
My Fantasy World draft: 1) DE Chris Long 2) RB Steve Slaton/ Felix Jones/ Ray Rice (Whoever grades out better or available) 3) OLD Shawn Crable 4) OT Kirk Barton (Tucker is old, and we still need lineman, I put him here cause with us drafting Thomas I didn't watch the college o-line as much)
Go Browns!!

Do we resign Jamal? If not, we're dead for RB's. And I gotta say McFadden. If Jamal is resigned then McFadden is thrown out. I think Jamal is back, though, so it should be Long or Dorsey.

I think even so, taking McFadden #1 overall is a HUGE HUGE investment and risk. That's upwards of 35 mil you're throwing on a player who, at any time in one single play, could have his career ended. And I know, any football player can end their career in one play. But RB's are the most frequent receivers of the big hits. Plus, there are other RB's we could nab in the 2nd.
Long would be a very solid pickup for our defense. He'd be a tremendous OLB pass rusher, and could even rotate into the 4-3 DLine or possibly as a 3-4 DE if need be.
Taking Dorsey #1 would fulfill the NT need, but I don't think he'd be a great 3-4 NT. He's got a world class of talent, and plugging him into the 3-4 defense is definitely not utilizing all of his abilities.

I voted for Long. He's a 3-4 DE which is what we need. Dorsey is a 4-3 DT who might be able to play DE in a 3-4. McFadden while talented is not a big need position if we resign Lewis.

I voted Long. Dorsey is the better lineman, but he really doesn't fit the 3-4. He is more of a Tommy Harris type of guy; best suited for a Cover 2 scheme or a 4-3. Long is/would be a terrific 3-4 end. The Browns could really use a guy like him. He can rush the passer (not really a 3-4 lineman's job, but it helps) and stuff the run.

I considered saying other. What I would have done if I had said other (and probably what the person in question) is trade down for more picks.

I voted for Chris Long.. IMO, he's the best player in the draft.. he's a stud, studs find a way to make plays and help your team win... No overanalyzing about if we do this or if we do that.... he will be a game changing player real soon at the next level. I'd rather have Chris Long on defense with Wright and Harrison dividing the carries than McFadden and the DL we have now..... so there you go.
