At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

So basically a now-cheaper and probably-better replacement for Hudson. What's not to like?

BTW, I liked Hudson more than most on this board. Always thought he should get a shot at G.

Hudson was good for what he was... versatile backup.

Unfortunately, that's not how we were forced to use him most of the time he was out there (starting tackle for long stretches).

Watching him lining up at FB and getting to tee off on a linebacker was hilarious.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I'm always going to be a fan of upgrading our OT depth, but unfortunately our starting tackles are still Wills and Conklin/Jones.

Wills is a free agent who's unlikely to be resigned. Conklin has missed 33 games over the last 4 seasons and Jones is returning from his own injury and is still a player who has trouble controlling his weight. Lucas, who will be 34 in July, may just end up the starting LT adding to the Browns already aging line.

Thank you for the correction... for some reason I thought Wills had one more year.

My point stands, I don't think/hope this signing really addresses our starting OT issue.

Lucas may not be a world beater, but he looks like an upgrade. Held up pretty well against Myles last year. Probably more of a "bridge" LT at his age, but at least we don't have a hole going into the draft with Jones still working his way back from the injury.

I don't believe the front office brought him here to solve the OT of the future issue. He replaces Hudson basically. A swing tackle that can back up both Jones and Conklin. I don't think this signing will prevent them from drafting a Tackle if that opportunity arises during the draft this year. But it also helps Berry not reach for one either. Good signing will add experience to the line and has very good pass protection grades.

I'm just saying that I really hope we're not done looking for a starting-caliber OT.

Should be a nice depth piece at OT and likely upgrade over Hudson as the new swing tackle.

Oline isn't a group where I think age is a big factor...with-in reason of course. He can still play for another 3-4 years. In todays NFL, expecting anybody to be around for over 3-4 years is expecting a lot.
