Trump orders DC mayor to clear homeless encampments. https://san.com/cc/trump-orders-dc-mayor-to-clear-homeless-encampments/Poor people can’t get a break these days. And it’s only going to get worse with all this inflation, tarrffs, federal employees being axed, and the stock market tanking. What was it again you GOPers voted for?

Failed policies of previous politicians (including, but not exclusive to, Trump himself) did leave a pretty big problem that needs to be addressed.

Just causing more of it with his policies. Look at the trend during Biden's watch. We don't have Trump numbers yet. https://www.huduser.gov/portal/data...estimates-of-homelessness-in-the-us.htmlAnd I'm still not a Goper. What is the current administration doing? We don't have results of policy changes to look at yet. Quite a good chance that it sucks. But claiming its going to suck while pretending the previous numbers didn't suck... sucks.

You are correct that the homeless situation has sucked for a very long time. However I never recall a president mandating a city kick the homeless out of where they currently reside. Can you?
In case you missed it, that IS something "the current administration is doing". The fact that his actions initially are terrible certainly does make some difference to some of us. And some of us look at what's going on and see it as an indication of what's to come.
Don't you find it odd that when he did find a moment to address anything having to do with the homeless issue that this is the first thing he decided to do? That doesn't send any kind of message or indication of the situation moving forward to you or do you keep planning to travel down this side road too?

Most presidents didn't have homeless people trying to camp on the White House lawn. Do you want a homeless camp where you live and work? And it's not that i'm being pro-Trump. It's just that when politicians in LA do it there's a different reaction from some. If I thought it was about the action instead of the Trump did this part, I'd have a different reaction. The lets shame Trump to make ourselves feel better act has just gotten old. If people want to talk about the issue, let's talk about the issue.

Just read about the "situation"- I don't care who the President is- one issue is individual freedom vs good of society- in the read article it states "cronic homeless people can't be forced into AVAILABLE shelters-- they have the right to pitch tents where they want. I'm an old guy- in old days/ which were NOT all good/ there were VAGRANCY laws...you were not allowed to crap and pee outdoors due to sanitation AND business rights. I'm all for forcing people into shelters...ie, they must be mentally ill not to want basic shelter and food- they don't have the right to ruin parks, vacant land, or sidewalk use- clean them out. PERIOD.
I'm completely against housing illegals in hotels/ apartments/ caring for them-- the ONLY really good thing Trump has done is stop the contant flow of illegals and pouring our money down the neverending hole of caring for them.
Poor people rights vs normal people rights--- poor and mentally ill need help, but not at the expense of normal/expected life----just my two cents.

You do realize they actually moved those people off the streets of L.A. into temporary housing don't you? It wasn't a long term answer and some of them ended up back on the streets later. But it wasn't like a cattle drive.
They did the same thing here in Nashville when they closed a homeless encampment at a park. All of them were placed in temporary housing instead of leaving them homeless and on the streets.

The article linked at the beginning of the thread quoted the DC Mayor saying there is available temporary housing. How is this different than what Newsom did in LA? Since it's Trump involved, you seem to assume it will be a "cattle drive." Feels like some bias is showing. So, lots of places are doing the same thing, but this one in DC, that one's the problem. No, don't look at the Democrat doing the same thing, Trump bad!

That certainly sounds much more like his M.O.
So factually what you're saying is trump ordered them out and the D.C. mayor made sure they weren't simply rounded up like a "cattle drive".
The difference? In case you missed it.............
In L.A. and Nashville the people in charge of the city who decided to move the homeless made arrangements to house them before they were moved. In D.C. trump demanded they be moved and the city had to scramble to prevent those people from being homeless. The fact they got housing was in no thanks to trump who only cared that they get the hell out of there.

I think you need to actually go read how it happened in LA and how the people that actually did the moving felt about Newsom's order. Your made up scenarios don't "Trump" verifiable history. Your ability to make excuses for one side while castigating the other for the same thing is... not rational. That certainly sounds much more like his M.O.

So you think trump demanding they be moved while leaving it up to others to insure they have temporary housing when in other cities the people who wanted them moved did find other housing for them makes no difference? That's about what I expected.
I don't care how people "felt" about Newsom's order. He either provided housing for them or he didn't. Just like the D.C. mayor had to do after trump demanded their removal. If you have verifiable history to the contrary let me know.

Richest country on the planet and we have entirely too many homeless folks...WORSE yet, a great many of them served in our military with honor. Many are disabled either mentally or physically.
Maybe instead of telling DC to remove homeless people, Trump might wanna ask what he can do to help. That is after all, his job.
